would you? having thought about it a few times and talked to another member here when i first joined, i think i would like to be hypnotised and asked some questions about things, life, previous life, early memories, repressed memories and a whole bunch of other stuff.

have any of you ever undergone this procedure or know anything about it, would you do it?

I never have, but it's one thing that I have always wanted to do but of course couldn't while a dub.

I look forward to it some time in the not-too-distant future.

I'd like to try it but I don't trust anybody enough. I keep telling my husband to learn how so he can help me solve a couple smallish problems, like smoking too much and being oversensitive to noise. But then I'm afraid I will find that afterwards I suddenly love housework and want sex twice a day. On the other hand, that might not be so bad. Maybe I should go for that instead.

Milton Erickson was a therapist who was the greatest hypnotist ever, you might find it interesting to read a book about his work. Also there's a guy named Roger Woolgar who helps people to find out about their past lives, he has a book called "Other Lives, Other Selves" that is fascinating.

Another great book dealing with hypnosis: Journey of Souls: Case Studies of Life Between Lives by Michael Duff Newton. I no longer have such curiosity about it but when I did I really loved this book. For those who do have an interest I would recommend it.

I went to a hypnotist show over new years. There were about 30 people on stage. Some were under hypnosis, but it didn't 'take' with me. Perhaps I am too boneheaded. I just played along, but was conscience of my surroundings.

I think there are more professional people, that can do a better job. More like one on one, where they can dig into your past. But to go on stage and act silly, because the hypnotist put you under, didn't work for me.

Hah, that's what you THINK happened. Actually you ate a raw onion under the impression it was an apple, and sang the Marselleise accappella, with a pair of underpants on your head.

DH....The Wellness Journey is an excellent book probably available at the Library...it's written by a Hypnotist and takes alot of the myths out of it and also gives tips on self hypnosis for relaxation...I use some of the techniques every once and awhile.

I wouldn't be interested myself, but I can see how it could be useful. I think it also depends on the intent and how you use it - if you go to someone you can trust and you know they are good, no-nonsense and it is done in an effort to uncover things that are hidden, that serves to bring things into awareness. It should be noted though that even if you become aware of it, you might still have the tendancy to cling to things - and that just creates suffering regardless.

However, sometimes people do hypnotherapy in an effort to quit smoking or whatnot, and while that might help you with an immediate goal you have to keep in mind you are essentially functioning under a trance, I've had enough of that kind of unconscious living. By the way, this would of course be dangerous to the JW identity - you have sort of an alternative trance, and heaven (well, the JW heaven) forbid you come out of trance living altogether.

    thanks for the responses!

i think my intent is just that i want to see what's actually in there, things that are in my mind and a part of me that i'm not aware of, sort of like regression, because there have always been some screws loose, it would be interesting to see what's really in there, not that i think i need it to continue my life, but for the sake of the experience, i think it could be an interesting journey.

We all go into and out of trances every day.......... every day.

yeah, that happens a lot, i think jw's are more prone to it because of the hours of boredom!

have any of you seen the movie K-Pax starring Richard Gere & Kevin Spacy?

I saw K-Pax. It was good. I wondered the whole way through and even at the end. I liked it a lot. Did you?
