I pray to Marduk everyday that he doesn't.
black,
whatever!
All I can say is GEESH!
Ah yes, fine christian warrior Yeru. When you find yourself in a war you shouldn't be in, kill 'em all indescriminately, women and children too. And I thought I was unsentimental.
I don't recall saying we should or should have killed anyone indiscriminately, nor did I mention women or children. I said we should have pulverized Hanoi and bombed Laos and Cambodia. Here's the thing...when the US finally started to bomb Hanoi, the Vietmanese began to negotiate with us...when we stopped, they stopped negotiating. In a war you attack political, military, and industrial targets...Hanoi had all three.
Laos and Cambodia were being used by the North to supply their war effort, yet we wouldn't bomb the Ho Chi Mein trail running through the afore mentioned countries. Even when we knew exactly where the enemy was on it (which was quite often). By the end of the war the "trail" was actually a highway. Had we fought Vietnam like a war...it would have been done in a few years. Unfortunately, the politicians ignored the generals. Unfortunately again this seems to be happening on a limited scale in Iraq...and doesn't bode well for us. The Marines could have taken down Fallujah in about three days...but, we negotiated with terrorists and thugs instead...and have become a laughing stock. Karbala we did correctly last night...lots of dead terrorists, and ZERO complaints of collateral damage.
Should we have been in Nam? Only if our treaties meant anything to us.
Simon,
I'm no more extreme than you are, I'm just on the other end of the spectrum, your mirror image on the right if you will.
yeru,
are you going insane? are you actually saying now that the US did not bomb cambodia???

Sometimes I get the feeling that Yeru secretly contributes to the ACLU, is a charter member of PETA and a card carrying liberal whilst Simon dresses up as George Bush and is a Republican operative in the UK feverishly working on the Worldwide Conservative Agenda (tm)
Tex,
You gave me a much needed laugh...
Realist,
The Ho Chi Mein Trail was almost always off limits to US bombing raids. Had the US set out to actually fight the war in Vietnam like a real war...it would have been over VERY quickly.
Sorry, didn't mean to insult. I just can't fathom how people can think the US is the "good guys." Maybe its a lack of understanding US history, or at least from a perspective other than "we're the good guys." Even today our high school textbooks are still very Euro-centric and US-Centric. First, I don't know anyone in the US or outside of the US who runs around calling ourselves the "good guys." But I sure as hell know that when 9/11 hit, who the "bad guys" were. I always marvel at this obsession that the left type has about the US claiming "were the best." What nation on earth DOESN'T think they are the best? When I lived in Europe I got SICK of hearing how bad other countries were, and how the particuar country I was in was doing things the wrong way. Secondly, if you want to TRULY explore mideastern, Arab culture from an objective point of view in US schools, go right ahead. Discuss the fact that not one of the Arab nations has seemed to function outside of a totalarian rule. Discuss the treatment/oppression of women. Discuss the intoleratnce of other religions. Discuss the proclivity to harbor terrorism, where men have no compunction about murdering innocent women/children/civilians, and in the process, dying themselves. If you want to be OBJECTIVE about these societies, then, that's good. Kids are smart enough to draw their own conclusions.
black,
where in europe have you been?

you mean the people criticized their own country? i don't see whats wrong with that. self criticism is the first step to improving things.
Bush will be re-elected IF...
IF there is an election.
We live in strange times.
Bush has the right views and temperament to make the whole world hate the USA.
I think that is necessary to bring it all to a finish.
