sounds like you were given the run around..
there may indeed be a freeze, but if there is, someone found a work around..............that sucks..

If I remember correctly, your boss is a JW. This situation smacks of discrimination. Is there someone higher than him that you can go to for a frank talk? Are you contracting through an agency? If so, you may want to talk to someone there. They won't want you to lose a position through discrimination either.
I hope it works out for you the best way possible.

Nina,
That guy was at my last job... where I was suddenly laid off The only reason I did not raise hell over it was because several other people were laid off too.
I started this new position in early Feb... it is described as "Contract with the possibility of going perm"
=====
Ok... here is the news from this morning...
After I got in this morning and noticed that my supervisor did not respond to my email from yesterday evening (I wanted to be fair and give him time to sleep on it - I hate it when someone suddenly calls me into a meeting and throws accusations at me.), I called the contracting company that placed me here and expressed my concerns. Especially the point about my supervisor saying that there was a hiring freeze in place and then bringing in two new perm workers. I certainly was not just going to sit here and take whatever they wanted to throw at me.
A short while ago my supervisor asked to chat with me and we ended up having a pleasant conversation about this. I'm glad I did not fly off the handle and start throwing accusations (only "concerns" and "worries"). It turns out that the two people are interns from another department who need to get their feet wet in development. Basically he said that nothing has changed regarding my contract and any potential for becoming a perm employee.
I can breath a breath of relief.
Oh, good, I'm so glad! Hope it works out!
Nina
Good Elsewhere.. so you still have a chance down the road! Hang in there!
Well that's good news at least Else. Just hang in there and keep doing a good job, sooner or later someone will recognize a genius in the making.
Just passed a major mile stone today! Last night I was up in middle of the night worrying about what would happen with my contract today.
I have finished all of my initial projects. If they were going to let me go, it would be today... instead they have given me two more projects to work on!!!
What is even better is that they are finally giving me my first .Net project! This is big! I will still have to maintain my previous Classic ASP projects, but now I will get to have more .Net experience on my resume. For the last few years I have been having a hard time finding any steady .Net work to make my resume look better, and this should definatly help. (So far all of my .Net work has been bits here and bits there)
Today I am reviewing their .Net Development Guidlines and Standards and will soon start work on the application!
I was veeery worried last night because a few years ago I went to an Apostafest gathering only to return on monday to find out that my contract was ended. I could see a parallel with the gathering coming up this weekend. Then when I asked if my contract would be continued, my Magic 8 Ball told me: Don't Count On It.
I need to stop listening to that damn thing!
yes stop listening to it..
well wait.. my company makes those.. KEEP using it.. just ignore the stuff you dont' like
We also make a LOVE 8 Ball.. go buy one of those.. and dont' ask it any questions about work..
only your love life
but I am glad to hear you have projects ahead!!!.. we'd hate to have you scared off from future apostafests...
Yay ... good news Elsewhere !
Hope you enjoy .NET - I've found it pretty terrific. I can point you in the direction of some good tools and components too that can help with development if you are interested.
instead they have given me two more projects to work on!!!
Fantastic news Else! Congrats!!
