dubla,
i assume simon is talking about broadcasting opposing views in the mass media...but again please ask him personally.
my first response to your post was by the way:
dubla,so how could there be a question about my standpoint on it? it seems you again try to make a case out of nothing.true the US has freedom of speech and freedom of press. but the mass media which is the only crucial part when it comes to controlling the opinion of the population is controlled by only a very few companies.

whos wound up here simon? personally, im amused......i think its hilarious you are such a fanatic that you have to make absurd connections like "free speech" and a movie getting rejected by a studio. i think the one who is wound up is the one starting political agenda threads constantly, after asking others to refrain from such things.

sorry for the confusion then...not trying to make something out of nothing in the least, i guess i got mixed up as far as the points on this thread you were actually agreeing with. basically then, your stance has nothing to do with the true topic of the thread, which is disney vs. michael moore, and "free speech"......fair enough.

What are some of the factual errors that Michael Moore has made in his movies?
Alan F makes some powerful observations.
My question would be if the suppositions are true, why have the Professional Democratic Machinery not used this information to discredit Bush already? Surely, the information presented in Moor?s film is old news now......
Frankly, I'm a major Disney fan--go there once a year, now with kids I finally have an excuse. Plenty of Disney products around, with two small children. If this movie were released, my opinion of Disney would definately take a dive. I pretty much represent Disney's target market. Disney's has classically upheld American values and supported America. My guess is that Disney doesn't want to be associated with a film like this, and they are smart to resist it.
Freedom of speech, indeed. They have the right to do whatever they want. Trust me, it's about business and $$. They are thinking of their shareholders, esp in the wake of the Eisner controversy.
Outside of the numerous factual errors, it just felt wrong. I understand the point he was trying to make (or rather beating the viewer into submission with) but my feeling is if you have to distort facts to make your point, then your point isn't worth making.
I'm curious, what were the factual errors in Bowling? I saw some silly grandstanding, but I'm not aware of the errors; fill me in.
If one took nothing else from Bowling, a good hard look at the differences between the US and Canada, which it looked to me as if Moore presented very fairly, should give you a lot to chew on as to what "Our Big Problem" is. And it is a big problem. People who minimize it should be shot.
Moore should try to come up with some proof about the "tax break" scenario, but this is true to his colors...making outrageous comments with no proof...as if they were fact.
Yeru,
I agree with ya, mate!
I have a Mike Moore book next to my bed and pick it up from time to time. I thought it would be a lucid and interesting read. Instead I have found a belligerent, often incoherent rambling!!
I concede that he may be onto something, but he doesn't convince me yet.
Trouble is, now I'm very dubious about anything else he puts out.
Cheers, Ozzie
Ozzie,
Sounds like you're a discerning individual. In reference to his movie, the 9-11 commission has already addressed many of the "issues" supposedly brought up in the movie, (the Bin Laden family issue) and dismissed it as baseless...none other than Richard Clarke approved the Bin Laden family members leaving the US...after they were interviewed by CIA.
