    Stephanie,

Thank you for speaking your opinion. May I ask if you are one who believes in God and the Bible? Some people, of course, believe in God but NOT the Bible. Some people don't believe in either one of them.

Also, if you are one who believes in the both of them then what can you say in defense of your position that it's okay for a Christian to involve himself in the wars between gentile nations?

I must go for the moment, but I'll try to be back before long. (Been putting off changing the oil in my wife's car now for what she says is "too long". )

David may have been an Isrealite warrior, but I think he is to be remembered first and foremost as a husband and a father.

Schizm, your premise is just plain stupid. This kid is being remembered by the community he lived in, not being "glorified". Dumbass JW speak will not just slip by unoticed in this forum, you should know that by now.

The point was, that David (the person that YOU brought up) was a ISRAELITE warrior. That, in itself, makes all the difference in the world. Why? Because David fought for a nation that God had chosen to be his people. You, Yeru, fight for a nation that can't claim to be chosen of God. For that reason, no true Christian can conscientiously involve himself in the squabbles of the world.
Oh please, wipe the horse caca off your chin. "David" as written about in the bible, is mythology. But aside from that, there aren't any countries that "god" has "chosen" today (not that there ever were). Further, the character of Jesus and other tales in the new testament portion of the bible make it very clear that being in the military was not something Jesus looked down upon.

I will make this short and simple.

    No and No.

    I dont believe in either.

I just appreciate what sacrifices people have made with their lives for freedom.

glo·ri·fy 1. To give glory, honor, or high praise to; exalt.

No, my premise is not stupid. I didn't use the wrong word! In addition to all the reports that one can read regarding this man's being a Marine, and the fact that he got killed while doing what he believed in, the fact that the following picture was displayed on a large screen in the Church also attests to my correct usage of the word "glorified".

What do you think God thinks about the idea of a gun-toting war hero being glorified in a building that is dedicated to the worship of the Creator?

    1. I don't think God thinks anything one way or another regarding a church posting this picture. Whether it's an individual picture with a soldier and a flag, or this one, is there really any difference? (Like God didn't know the guy was in Iraq and possessed a weapon before his death). At the moment, it was the guy's job, so he was pictured at work. Seriously, God is more than photo judge.

    2. Why do you use the word "glorified". I see it as a person being remembered, not glorified. The building besides being dedicated to the worship of the Creator is the "home" of the church family...and they just lost a member of their family. Different strokes for different folks.... maybe they're really patriotic and value his service (I know I do). I don't think we should be so judgemental.

"Pictures of the 21-year-old Marine who was killed April 26 in Iraq filled a large screen placed on the altar at First United Methodist Church in Sunray, imbuing the sanctuary with the young man's energy and charm so recognizable in the photographs."

Interesting .... you see the rifle, they see the man.

Damn christians, always "exalting" each other in my hizouse, sayeth the lord.

Geez Schizm, the kid did die doing a job for his fellow man he knew was dangerous. I say he was being remembered fondly, and I believe that 99.9% of all my fellow humans realize what assholes you and most JW's are for having a problem with said rememberence.

You could always change for the better Schiz. People do that you know?

    Double Edge ,

I note that your profile says that you've never been a JW. That being the case, I doubt that you have the background to make it possible for you to understand where I'm coming from here.

    2. Why do you use the word "glorified".

I explained that already, up above.

The fact is that the Church itself approves of person's who claim to be "Christians" joining the military. That's also at issue here.

    Double Edge just said:

Didn't you agree with him, SixofNine? Apparently not!

One of the best things about not being a JW is that I don't have to suffer fools gladly or long, Schiz. If it makes you feel any better, I don't think god really cares one way or the other that people like you have such a meanspirited and small view of him/her/it.
