Ridicule or Reason on JWD? What do you do?....

  I find it highly ironic that Scooby makes this post on his opinion of certain threads/topics and how he likes/doesn't like them. I did the same thing, in a respectful way, on one of his threads and was patronised, called uptight, and my 'newness' on the forum the cause of my apparently unenlightened opinion.

  What I don't understand Scooby, is why it's okay when you're the one with the opinion or doing the ridiculing. You're pointing fingers at others for what they do here, but really, can you honestly say you haven't spent time ridiculing others here? Or at the very least pushing some buttons for a reaction?.

  I also notice that you don't answer your own subject questions...why not? Like this one. Do you ridicule or reason? What is your purpose for your threads?

  And maybe I'm not destined for spending time on Scooby's threads. They always seem like they could be interesting topics from the subject line, and I keep heading in to read, but very soon it's apparent they are jabs at others, or at the very least, critiquing others, which is just not where I want to live my life.

  But then what do I know. I'm just some 1's and 0's across the world. And these are just my 2 cents, which in CDN funds, is almost nothing. *shrug*

  Having been on the receiving end of some of Scooby's ridicule, insults, and button-pushing, I can only say, "ditto".

  I don't think anyone here (including myself) appreciates you trying to be our conscience.

  take from it what you like scoob. But I must say that your threads are always whining about this place and witnesses.

  Make a decision and stick with it. Be happy in what you do and stop sitting on the fence. Go back to the witnesses if we ae so bad. I for one don't believe that you think that and I know that you don't think that deep down.

  Thank you Shamus, my thoughts exactly! Scooby vacliates between being pro JW and Ex JW. I can't follow his stands on this matter. I find it hard to respect someone who is wishy washy. Scooby's trying to be the voice of reason is not working. It comes across as phoney to me. Let's just say I would not buy a car from this guy! Maverick

  Scooby is just utterly conflicted by the gay versus jw issue. This isn't so unusual, I have gay friends that still think they'll be destroyed at the big A, and there are plenty other non exJW gay people who think they'll pay for their sin. What is unusual is that he visits and posts here. Although he posts proJW threads, the fact that he lies to the Witnesses (in the sense that he witholds the truth about his sexuality) shows he doesn't respect them as an organisation.

  And often his threads are posted late at night (post work?) probably when he's bored or frustrated by his conflict.

  edited to add: the board copes with xenophobes and Messiahs, it can cope with a gay JW apologist.

  Scoty, very interesting spin but I wonder if Scooby's sexual orientation is at issue here. I guess I don't see it as such. But it is outside my scope of experience so I'll have to ponder it. Maverick

  That's generally my take. I blame the Governing Body for virtually all the problems that have been caused within the Organization. Alot of the Rank and File Witnesses, although blinded, are not responsible for making the rules.

  You make some astute observations, though.
  Until he comes to truly accept himself, for himself, he will continue to live in a twilight zone of attempting to please too many worlds. "There lies madness..."

  Scooby:I rarely ricicule anyone - it's not a weapon that I particularly like to brandish. On the few occasions that I do, it's usually because the individual is attacking sensitive people.

  At the end of the day people beleive what they want to believe. I'm in a poor position to change that, and so I usually call for reasonableness, especially when tempers run high.

  It's true, we sometimes ridicule. It may seem wrong to some people. As it does to me when the Watchtower conductor ridicules "worldly thinking". Everyone laughs, but not me. I guess it depends on what your mental perspective is.

  This rarely happens, so it's not a huge problem, but what I think is out of control is people talk about geting so angry at Witnesses they see preaching they would like to do bodily harm to them, or speak abusively to them. I've seen a post out here where someone said they see a Witness woman on the subway every morning at the same place and seeing her every day stirs up intense anger, guilt, whatever, and they wished they could kick her. Very disappointing IMO. We were all once just like the Witness woman in the subway. Would we want to have been kicked, or even screamed at? Mentioning those types of sentiments out here really shows how far a person still needs to grow, and can really give the wrong impression to a lurking JW honestly looking for support.

  Not like we should be "scolded" to not "stumble" others or anything (bad flashback, I know). So many people here really focus on using this board to help JWs find their way out, and it's comments like that one above that makes you wonder if others are undoing the time and effort they spend.

  Oh, well. So it is on any internet community, I suppose.
