Proof There is No Jehovah

your worship does not hinge on return favors

S'alright, Tink. God supposedly returns love to you, right? Don't you get to bask in his "presence" for being faithful. That's just as much (or more) a return favor as anything else.

I realized that all the good feelings from worship were coming from within. Living a clean, healthy life has its own rewards, regardless of who gets the credit. It feels good to think god is watching over you and cares about your future, but as soon as you go down that slippery slope of overindulgence in pleasures and unhealthy living, you'll find you don't feel so good anymore, whether you are Christian, Muslim, Jew, or Atheist or anything else.

Explain how an Atheist can have overwhelming feelings of spiritual insight and deep love for all living things, while across the street the believer fights the urge to kill himself (melodramatic, I know, but you get the point). It's the way you live that dictates your wisdom and happiness, not the whim of some giant in the sky.

Ah, but New Light, you forgot the JW creed: Jehovah only answers prayers that are in harmony with His will .

Have you ever bought something from an especially talented salesperson and then later got home and asked yourself; "Why did I let him/her talk me into buying this?" According to your reasoning, the salesperson violated or negated your freewill.

I submit that the only true freewill that we have is the freedom to choose which influences we encounter we will act upon.

NL:I was just messing with ya

The truth of the matter, however, is that you've offered no "proof" of the nonexistance of any "god".

Explain how an Atheist can have overwhelming feelings of spiritual insight and deep love for all living things, while across the street the believer fights the urge to kill himself

Is that not use of selective evidence, given that the opposite coule be just as true??

(btw, I'll add my vote to the "love the avatar" brigade )

Many things can influence our minds. If we choose to listen to god then that is our will. He can gives us suggestions, but we don't have to follow them (example: Jonah) I believe we have the free will to choose wether to listen to these suggestions or not. Just because there are consequences doesn't mean we still have no choice. I can choose to poke my eye out. God would probably not want me to...I may even hear reasons in my brain not to do it. If I do it and I loose vision, bleed and experience pain...my free will has not been effected.

new light, just as a by the by, i myself am an atheist. however, i think that if you truly believe in god, you'd worship him even if you received nothing in return. is being in his presence really a reward for worshipping him? i don't worship him, and yet if he exists i am in his presence always despite the fact that i don't even believe he is there.

I don't believe we do have free will in most things. A good book that addresses some of these issues "The Potter's Freedom" by James R. White

new light.....I (mostly) get your point and (mostly) agree with it.....

I personally avoid the word 'proof' and instead use 'evidence' since proof is so final.

The wife and I were discussing just similar thoughts today on what 'reality' is since its essentially subjective to our senses and cognitive abilities. Thus, its hard to judge anyones 'reality' whether they believe in Jehovah or are complete atheists.

Right now I see evidence that supports a creator of all things and I see evidence of evolution but no real proof either way.

If there is a creator as described in the Bible, I don't believe it described him giving total and absolute free will to humans. Your definition of free will at the start is lacking in detail and biblical support, thus, your conclusion that is stated as 'Proof there is No Jehovah' isn't supported yet for me to better understsand what your saying.

So my agreement with you as I said at the start is all your other statements about prayer, emotionalism, people perhaps only fooling themselves with religion, good or bad feelings coming from within and this statement:

I'm not saying there is no creator, as I truthfully have no idea. What I do know is that I have not experienced Jehovah since I took off the blinders. In spite of countless pleas for even the slightest sign, god is no where to be found. All I wanted was a reason to believe that went beyond simple emotion, and it has been denied. Sorry, but I need more than blind faith on which to base a belief. Surely, the almighty of the universe, our creator and the source of love and wisdom would understand that.

really is what I feel especially since taking off the blinders.

I believe there is a divine plan and that it is probably more complex and incredible that we can or may ever comprehend.
