I am not really looking into becoming one, I came hear to find out what they really believed. To me it din't seem possible that people could believe such things. It turns out I was wrong. Another question, Are Followers of JW told what to read from thier bible and some forms of indpendent study of the bible is wrong?

Yes you are discouraged from reading the bible without their literature. Another site is http://quotes.watchtower.ca/index.htm, this site will give actual quotes from JW literature. Good luck!

Canti.... the reason I left was for this very reason. I wanted to research their history OUTSIDE of information provided in their literature. I wanted to use a King James Bible to cross-reference the scriptures quoted in their literature. They will tell you that they use a King James Bible, but in fact they strongly encourage the use of ONLY their translation called the New World Translation. Which, by the way is not available for purchase outside their organization.
When I attempted to study the bible using aids that had not been supplied by their organization, the "Elders" or leaders of the congregation suggested to my parents that I was a spiritual threat and should be kicked out of their home. There were physical altercations ( with my family, not the Elders) and I was ultimately asked to leave their home for my interest in knowledge outside that which was already censored for me.

they are worried if you do independant study of the bible (without their liturature) you might come up with your own interpretation of what it means. All JWs have to believe the same thing (what they call the truth). This same thing is what the governing body in New York says so.
they have full surmons on how bad independant thinking is.

omg I had no idea it was this bad =((((( To be Honest the thought of this happening sickens me deaply, I don't like seeing people being controled specially when the people behind it know that it is wrong. I actually hope that in the future I will be able to make a defrence. but atm i am collecting all the Data I can on my, So that my witness comes from the source and not from what I have heard through my own Church.

Well in my opinion the reason they don't want indepent bible study is because they are afraid they will find the verse of the Bible of Declaring that there is a Hell and that God Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one in the same. Jesus through out the New Testament says in fact that he is God. They are afraid that people will find theese verses.
