hey Az,
I think you would have to become a Sharks fan.
California's fabulous, why not move there? If you don't like it you can always go back.
It's true what Blondie said, you do take your problems with you wherever you go. But sometimes a different environment gives you a new perspective on them.
What's the reason for the move? How come California? Do you have a job lined up or did you just pick a state that had good weather? Do you know where in California you want to move or are you going to just drive out here and figure it out then? If you just want to move far from where you are now..........I would probably pick a state closer to home with good weather, somewhere like Florida. (I just notice that you were in MIchigan and California will be so far from your family)
Hope all is well with you.
Yes Michigan would be far from my family. That would be the point! Walter and Rocket, you're both so silly! I would not become a Laker, Raider, Duck or Shark fan. I'm a true blue Lions, Wing, Piston, Tiger, Wolverine and Spartan fan. Check my wardrobe. I could still visit Toronto but it would take alot longer and I'd still cheer for the Leafs (minus Don Cherry).
Thanks to everyone else. I realize that earthquakes would be a possibility. We've had tornado warnings here three days in a row. I'm used to weird weather. No I don't have a job lined up there but, I don't have one lined up here in Michigan either. I would probably move to a big city because that's what I'm used to and I know how to drive in crazy traffic. I've lived in Detroit and Toronto. I'm sure LA would be worse but I'm adaptable. Part of what is attractive about California is the diversity in weather. In Michigan it's either muggy, freezing or tornado weather. There isn't much else.
Anyway, I'm weighing all of my options right now and deciding what I want to do. Thanks for the replies.

I'd seriously make sure you have a job before coming here.. I was paying 700 a month for an apartment half in the ghetto.... now I moved to a really nice place but am paying 1500 a month and that is cheap and to get that price for a nice place I had to move a one and a half hour to two hour drive out... where I now pay not only that much gas out a day but $100 a month for a toll lane. I'd get a job closer but the pay is half the dollars an hour that I get now and then I wouldn't make rent...
This is what happens when you move out to cali.
Actually, just wanted to second some of the other posts here. The cost of living is ridiculous. We pay the most for gas and we drive the farthest. It's a concrete jungle. Here's some of the perks though:
Depending on what part of Cali you chose, like where I live; you're just a small drive from the mountains, the beach, the dessert, and Hollywood. There is a great diversity of people and cultures. The best Mexican food this side of Mexico. Lots of sunshine. A day trip from Vegas and Mexico. And our Govenor is the Terminator. It doesnt get much better than that.
Heya Az,
Well, you won't get too many people in california saying how sucky it is out here. We love this place and would not live anywhere else. Most people here are from someplace else as well. I have some friends from Detroit who live out here and they are redwings fans, but also sharks fans Anyway, we can work on your love for california hockey later.
So it sounds like getting a job is a first step. You are probably familiar with the general industries in cali but I will sum up what I know. If you are in technology or biotech, the bay area is the best place to be in the world. In you are in movies, music, acting or porn then LA is the best place in the world to be. Others will probably add more.
This site is a realy great resource for finding jobs, places to live and/or roomates. It is sparse on design, but more than makes up for it in great content. A true gem from the bay that has spread to all over now. It should give you an idea of what jobs are available and what to pay for rent.

I have more cents to add besides my last two...... this is correct. I've had the opportunity to live back East in the New Jersey/ New York area, I've also lived down south in the Ohio/Kentucky/ Tennessee areas, and spent an extended amount of time in Washington with family. I've visited many European countries as well. But my favorite place thus far is Southern California. Beware though, I had a friend from Wisconsin move out here last year. It was fun for her at first, but eventually she just prefered the Mid-West lifestyle better and went back home. Oh yeah, if you decide to move out here, at least to Southern California, you better learn some Spanish, you'll need it.
Yes, SD.......I am a native born California girl and would not move anywhere else.
You get used to the cost of living, especially if you have not known anything else! Someday, I hope to sell my house and pack it in and move to a smaller town.........hopefully still in California but slower paced and cheaper.
Something to consider too is school for your son and daycare. At least where you are at now you have someone to watch him for you...move away from them and you have to consider who is going to watch him while you work and when you need a break.
One of the things that keeps me where I am is that my daughter is in a good school district and my ex is here to help out with her.
