I got a phone call the other night, an old friend wanted to get in touch.

Yes! One of my childhood friends, and a former JW.

He invited me to go see Krall, he had Skybox tickets and wanted to reunite.

A lovely evening. Having no childhood friends or schoolmates, this felt so good. Ahh, I'm so happy about it!

And Krall, well what can I say?

The womyn is an amazing pianist. She started with an Oscar Petersen instrumental, then played a huge variety of pieces.

From her own work, to her husband's (Elvis Costello) piece written for her, Tom Waits (Temptation), Irving Berlin and Joni Mitchell, to name a few. For her second encore, she really got down to business, and did a couple of bluesy pieces, hamming it up with some scat. The concert lasted for 2 hours. She is quite the musician and has a great voice for jazz and blues, imho.

Just wanted to share. If you get a chance to see her, even if you are not a jazz enthusiast, do it! She is expanding her repertoire, and seems to be leaning towards the blues genre.

Talesin - nice review of the Krall concert. We saw her last year at the Chateau St Michelle winery.
    Wonderful evening.

Our last concert was Santana at the Tacoma Dome. Fabulous concert - last time I was at the Dome was for a District Convention about 5 years ago. What a contrast! lol

Upcoming concerts for us are: Marc Cohn, ---- Crosby, Still and Nash - Acoustic Alchemy and other Jazz artists.

Hoping to catch Robert Cray band next time he is in Seattle.

    All best,

Yeah, I wanted to share because the label 'jazz musician' can often be misconstrued. Even an old rocker like myself can enjoy her stuff.

Ahh, I'm jealous - Santana ! Sounds like you have a great line-up planned. I'd love to see Cohn (is he leonard's son, for some reason I'm thinking YES) and Robert Cray would be awesome. CSN would be amazing as well.

Thanks, hon. Yeah, it was so great. I love this guy, it was so good to see him again, and we're gonna keep in touch.

Since you live in Cali, maybe Krall will play a small venue sometime - that would be awesome.

Well at least she knows Elvis from Elvis (to quote Chuck Prophet).

I didn't know she was married to Elvis; how cool is that!

Wooo, I love that woman. She is a lady?s lady. I have four of her albums. I just can?t believe she married Elvis Costello (yes, I am Jealous..).

I know!! It's like, TOO cool. Saw them on a Cdn talk show a few weeks ago. (I know, I have to get out more!) They snuck off and got married around Christmastime.

What a nice thing to say, 'a lady's lady'.

She came onstage in a pair of jeans and long, flowing seventies' style top, no makeup. Gotta like that. She was so relaxed and easy, a real natural.

Smart move on both their parts. She is flavor of the month but could not write a song if seriously threatened, he is not flavor of the month and can.

A match made in musical heaven

    Hillary:

Au contraire mon ami! Diana Krall is not flavor of the month. She has written some of her own music and has been popular for at least 8 years across Canada. She has made the move into the world markets now but the talent is definitely there.

And I would say that even if she wasn't a smokin hot blonde ...

    Uzzah,

Her own songs ( i.e lyrics ) are hardly of any value at all imho though her music may be, and it is only the past three or four years that she has come to an international eye. Being popular in Canada is not what I meant when I said she is 'flavor of the month'. I have dealt with her agents for a number of years, and have noticed in recent times that they have suddenly become very 'precious'. They were never easy to deal with, they are now close to impossible - the price of this months flavor.

    She certainly is blonde though....lol

    Best regards - HS
