I got a phone call the other night, an old friend wanted to get in touch.
Yes! One of my childhood friends, and a former JW.
He invited me to go see Krall, he had Skybox tickets and wanted to reunite.
A lovely evening. Having no childhood friends or schoolmates, this felt so good. Ahh, I'm so happy about it!
And Krall, well what can I say?
The womyn is an amazing pianist. She started with an Oscar Petersen instrumental, then played a huge variety of pieces.
From her own work, to her husband's (Elvis Costello) piece written for her, Tom Waits (Temptation), Irving Berlin and Joni Mitchell, to name a few. For her second encore, she really got down to business, and did a couple of bluesy pieces, hamming it up with some scat. The concert lasted for 2 hours. She is quite the musician and has a great voice for jazz and blues, imho.
Just wanted to share. If you get a chance to see her, even if you are not a jazz enthusiast, do it! She is expanding her repertoire, and seems to be leaning towards the blues genre.
