I really do miss my 455 TransAm. On the plus side, I do still have a GrandPrix with the 455/4 bll V-8. It's a little more comfortable, but does not handle as well as the T/A.

I almost forgot about your hypothetical 50,000 pounds of currency ... hmmmm ... First, I'd buy a 2004 GTO. Then I'd pick up another GTO ... maybe a 455 H.O ... then I'd pick out either a 455 Super Duty Trans Am, or a nice land yacht ... like a GrandVille convertible. (Are you seeing a Pontiac theme here?)

My cousin has always had the hottest cars. When I was a kid, he had the GTO classic convertible, I think it's around 65 or 66? What a car!!! Candy Apple Red convertible. You know the one! He's the one who got me started with fast muscle cars. He used to own a track, and wanted to sponsor me for stock cars when I was 18. But you know the drill, had to preach the word! He had everything from a 56 Ford to a 64/5 Stingray, Dodge Challenger convertible (you know, the one from that movie Vanishing Point), to a Porsche kit car. Now he collects Mercedes (always my fav, since I was about 12). He makes me sick! (with envy heheh)

I agree, the TR-4 is cool. There's a couple around town (and lotsa TR-6s of course). But damn! Those Triumphs are a bitch to keep on the road. Kinda like the MGBs. Finicky things that they are.

If I had 50 grand to spend, and could still get one for that money, I would opt for a J2 Allard

I love most cars... esp. american classics. Couldn't say what my favourite american car is, although I do love the curves of the old Stingray.

Sports motors - the new Nissan 350 is pretty sweet...

I tend to drift more towards Kit Cars though... I did try shoe horning an AMC Javelin 304cuin engine into my tiny dutton phaeton, but gave it up because it was too damn heavy!!! Just thinking about the performance that would have had makes me go all squiffy.....

    bullO1lay,

My kid brother Tim, who lives in Telford, builds kit cars. He's built 2 Pilgrim Bulldogs and a Sumo replica of an AC Cobra.

    Englishman:

Cool pics - I love the AC cobra replica's. I nearly bought one a few years ago, but didn't like the finish of the kit. Not sure which maker it was, but it was dreadful. I know 'anything' can be sorted, but this would have taken so many layers of primer / paint and laquer to get the ripples out of the gel coat!!!

I like the DAX kits, but they are so expensive......!

What a goooooorgeous looking motor!!! Pure sex on 4 wheels!!

Contemporary car - would have to be the Brabus Merc EV12 - fastest roadgoing saloon (205 mph) - 50 grand *might* get me one second-hand and enough fuel to get to Germany

Classic - Mercedes again - the 300 SL Gullwing - arguably the most beautiful car ever built - not sure if 50K'd buy me one in concourse condition... this from a man who drives a Renault with nearly 120K on the clock
