Here a cut link and paste:

The word "entheogen" literally means "generating the divine within". In its strictest sense the term refers to a psychoactive plant or substance that occasions enlightening spiritual or mystical experience, within the parameters of a cult, in the original sense of cultus. In a broader sense, the word "entheogen" refers to artificial as well as natural substances that induce alterations of consciousness similar to those documented for ritual ingestion of traditional shamanic inebriants.

I use it sometimes for meditation, or special events. I have been able to learn/access some stuff that i may not, ordinarily.

I read that, before it was illegalised by the usa govt, a few psychiatrists were using some of it for patients who had become blocked. As well, g r wasson has researched shrooms fairly thouroughly. He concludes that they were instrumental in shamanism, and shamanism was at the root of the greek religion. He claimed also, that socrates used the stuff, at times. The annual greek rites (forgot the name right now) were based on it. The coming of roman power suppressed it.

I think it can be bad, also, like any sharp edged tool.

good or bad? I don't think it fits either of those catergories, it all depends on how you use it. I have had many benefits from the use of such plants and a few negatives as well. Nothing is perfect and perfect for you and psychoactives, even natural pschoactives are no different. I think if you can use them and get mostly postive benefits, then they are beneficial. There is a fine line between use and abuse of these types of substances. Responsible use requires constant vigilance.

    SS,,

I think if you do your research then,,you can make better choices. The internet has a lot of good information that is free and reliable,,for the most part.

I'm ordering some Yage on the net and it is perfectly legal. I just need to find the right dose on the net and through experimentation. A lot of shamans have their own formula,,maybe I will come up with one also,,it will take some time but hopeful will get it down pat.

Isn't yage the same as ayahuasca? There is a church in the usa based on it.

    Sirious,

Thanks for the offer,,I may take you up on it,,but I'm more inclind to do it alone in the hills by the reserviour up on Hick rd. san jose. I may be able to regulate the doses through a few trials. I think I will bring a tape recorder. The last time I did some heavy tripping I made a recording and it was so powerful I destroyed it.LOL I don't think I will be so frightened this time,,I seem to be getting bolder,,but still have some reasonable fears.

    SS,

Click on some of the blue writting in my cut and paste on the first post,, you can find out alot.

Also click on the blue Ayahuasca below:

When used as a drug, DMT is a very powerful yet short-lasting (10-15 minutes) hallucinogen (or entheogen), with onset in seconds. On its own, it is inert orally, and must be smoked or injected. However, DMT can be rendered orally active when taken in combination with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) which greatly increases the length of the trip. This is the combination used in the shamanic potion, Ayahuasca.

I don't have any judgements about it, but it does seem it's more for altered states of consciousness, an experience, than consciousness itself. I've never really felt the need to try any of it, as I'm not interested in particular states. I sometimes find myself in different states, but since I don't use any chemicals to induce it you can't attribute the experience to any exogenous chemicals as some are prone to do in a dismissive way. To me it's pretty simple, there's always consciousness regardless of the state it's in, so theres always 'access' to it. In fact I would say the reality is more immediate than even having access, its just always here.
