There are many people in the world who consider themselves "green" advocates and "green" friendly. Like John Kerry- has 7-8 houses, private jets, @ 6 really BIG gas guzzling autos, including SUV's. People who talk green but whose lifesytles reveal their true sentiments. What they REALLY mean is that they want YOU to live a life of bare necessities and of want, but that they feel that the rules and regs they want everyone else to live by don't apply to themselves. They are the elites of the world- the John Kerry's, the Bill Clinton's, Al Gore's, Prince Charles' and the "Royals" of the world- if not by birth then by politics and power. And, of course, lets not forget the most hypocritical bunch in the world- the Hollywood crowd. They live life to the fullest and largest- no busses, bikes, trains, no no-class airlines or walking for them. No 1000 sq ft homes, limited to one each. No energy conservation or rationing for them. The best and most of everything, in large quantities, is their motto. Limos, Rolls, MB's, Lexus SUV's, Cadillac SUV's (always 2 or 3 ,too), private jets, mansions beyond the low classes wildest imaginations (in more than 2 or 3 countries- so that they can relax in the most serene surroundings at the best times of the year, unbothered by all of us unwashed masses). Rationing, conservation and a utilitarian lifestyle is for the peasants and 2nd and 3rd class citizens of the world- us. So how does YOUR lifestyle add up, greenie wise. Do you live in a modest home of less than 1,000 sq ft if you are single? Less than 3,000 sq ft for a family? Do you use less than 1,000 KWH a month for a single person or less than 2,000 for a family? Do you walk where ever you can to save fuel? Do you use public transportation if it is available? Do you bunch trips together to save fuel? Do you use recycled paper? How about toilet paper made from recycled material? Do you use glass reusable container instead of plastic? How about cloth rags instead of paper towels? If you have little ones do you use cloth diapers or dispo ones, glass bottles or dispo liner ones? There are a million ways to conserve. How "green" are you? And do you really have a right to complain about someone elses auto using too much gas if you are living a life in other ways that belies your "green" stated beliefs? How much of a green hypocrite are you?

So how does YOUR lifestyle add up, greenie wise.
That depends on YOUR definition of a Greenie.
You would probably think of me as a hypocrite because I like to return the carbon from fossil fuels to the atmosphere, from whence it came.
Increasing carbon in the atmosphere, increases the growth rate of plants = increased carbon fixing, so atmospheric carbon levels is a self regulating system.
Global temperatures are also self regulating. Increasing temps increases the amount of evaporation = more clouds = more reflection of the sun's heat.
So, while I describe myself as a Greenie, I do not subscribe to all of their doctrine. I am certainly not going to make my life difficult following doctrines that were formed without taking into account contrary evidence, I had enough of that crap from another cult.
I buy wine with cork stoppers to save the cork forests, and use paper towels rather than cloth when working on machinery, as paper breaks down in oil and does not do the damage particles of rag do. It also keeps the forestry industry in bisiness, which is good, as trees use up carbon.
I buy very little in the way of packaged foods, prefering fresh produce, much of which I grow or catch.

ball.
Global temperatures are also self regulating
until the next ice age I guess.

until the next ice age I guess.
That's my point, ice ages are not permanent, the planet recovers from them.
They are also localised, to some extent, eg., the abrupt climate change that affects Northern Atlantic region occasionally.

grows,
excellent post!
with the exception of washable baby diapers and glass bottles (according to statistics the washing costs more energy than the production of a plastic bottle) i would in general say yes to all your questions.
problem is if we all want to life like the royals than the system will collaps.
black sheep,
we are increasing the CO2 level dramatically. it is not just giving the CO2 back to the atmosphere! now i am not overly concerned with global warming or other horror scenarios but i think we are taking an unncessary risk by using up so much energy - cutting down the forrests - polluting the oceans - etc.
there is the possibility that the whole eco system can collaps once a certain degree of damage was done. and then its bye bye baby for our civilization.
concerning the oil consumption: we need oil for many things not just as gas for cars and planes. plastic, drugs etc. is made from oil!

Hmmmmm, Grows1...........I've read two posts of yours within the past half hour on this board........let's see, for the record, it's 9:03 a.m. May 30th......Eastern standard time..........and, they've both been negative.........so, what is your point? Please, pm me and let me know. I conisder myself "green friendly" and I'd really like to hear what your view are. Maybe we can compare notes and you can share stuff you've learned and visa versa. And, oh, it would be nice if you'd say if you were a woman or a man...............in my personal experience it helps to know.

To answer your questions:
Do you live in a modest home of less than 3,000 sq ft for a family? Actually less than 1,500 sq ft.
Do you use less than 2,000 kwh/month for a family? Yes and we are pricing solar panels to install on our roof to lessen our dependence on "the grid".
Do you walk where ever you can to save fuel? Yes, in fact I only buy gas for my fuel-efficient car maybe every 2½ to 3 weeks.Do you use public transportation if it is available? It is not available when I need it for work, so No.Do you bunch trips together to save fuel? Yes, and rather than running to the supermarket every other day, I plan menus and errands such that one afternoon per week is allotted for errands. I also pay my bills online, to save trips to the post office, $ for stamps, $ & paper for envelopes and cheques.Do you use recycled paper? In addition, I cancelled my subscription to the newspaper and read it online or at work, I read magazines at the library or at work, and I stopped peddling the Watchtower and Awake! 10 years ago.How about toilet paper made from recycled material? Yes
Do you use glass reusable container instead of plastic? It depends on what the container is for.How about cloth rags instead of paper towels? Again, it depends on the intended use.
If you have little ones do you use cloth diapers or dispo ones? You'll love this: I made cloth diapers for my kids. The pattern came from a recycled women's magazine that I got in a 2nd hand bookstore.glass bottles or dispo liner ones? Tsk tsk. You should know that really "green" people prefer to breastfeed their babies.
We recycle glass, paper, cardboard boxes, plastic containers, elastic bands from broccoli and celery; we also compost.
Whenever possible, I use simple cleansers like baking soda and vinegar instead of harsh chemicals.
We run the laundry and dishwasher at off-peak hours for electricity consumption.Love, Scully

Do you protest the lifestyles of the elite? Do you write your politicians? Do you participate in local beach/park clean-ups? Do you volunteer in your community? Do you cook from scratch? Do you buy local? Do you promote peaceful, positive energy? Do you use phosphate-free household cleaning products? Do you eat seasonal, local produce? Do you take your own bags to the grocery store? Do you practice preventive health? Do you use non-aerosol products? Do you boycott Walmart? Do you help the poor? Do you eat farmed fish? Do you wear Nike or other sweatshop-produced products?

Do you live in a modest home of less than 1,000 sq ft if you are single? Less than 3,000 sq ft for a family? I am married and our apartment is less than 1100 square feet.
Do you use less than 1,000 KWH a month for a single person or less than 2,000 for a family? I don't know. Good question. My untilities are included in the rent, but I still turn off lights when they are not in use and have the AC off now since the outside temperature is not warm enough to warrant having it on. If I turned it to auto, it would still cycle on and off even thought the outside temp is around 70. So I turn it off and open windows.
Do you walk where ever you can to save fuel? Yes or bike.
Do you use public transportation if it is available? Yes.
Do you bunch trips together to save fuel? Yes, I might get tired and need another snickers for fuel if I make two bicycle trips to the same area or spend more money on the public transit if I make extra trips there, so I try to make errand runs efficient.
Do you use recycled paper? Sometimes.
How about toilet paper made from recycled material? No, that would be something to look into.
Do you use glass reusable container instead of plastic? No
How about cloth rags instead of paper towels? Yes, but I use paper napkins.
There are a million ways to conserve. How "green" are you? And do you really have a right to complain about someone elses auto using too much gas if you are living a life in other ways that belies your "green" stated beliefs? How much of a green hypocrite are you? I've never called myself green. A lot of the motivation for giving up my car was economic and health related. Ecological concerns were secondary. However, I ecological concerns are a higher priority for me now.
