The Watchtower bases its authority on the claim Jehovah made an inspection of Christianity around the years 1918/1919 and selected the Bible Students (now Jehovah's Witnesses).

OK....But other than making this claim (over and over and over again!) what proof does the WT present that they were indeed selected?

They are not clear in presenting any evidence that they were selected, or that even any selection occurred at all!

Their claims are merely made up, improvable statements! Fantasies!

The fact that they were still using the cross, celebrating birthdays and Christmas, thinking that the "superior authorities" were God and Jesus shows that they were far from the Bible "truth" they espouse today. Certainly, the WTS weren't practicing the "truth" in 1918 when Jesus came to inspect Christians on earth. (don't forget 1925)

    Deluded to the max!

Only the claim they did not support the league of nations conception. Ruthereford went to jail. But considering they were the bible students and not JWs it is a moot point.Even the "proof" does not apply to JWs a religion that was not created until 1935.

Also they are stating something that was true every year since jesus left the earth. So it is making a true generality a specific detail a momentous event. They can't claim the where free from paganized to the only thing they had is no hell, not trinity, no immortal soul. The atheist had already came to that assumption I guess that means Karl Marx was retroing true religion too.

This was something that stuck out in my head when I was studying (but obviously I never questioned it).

It never made sense to me that an all-knowing God would have to make an 'inspection' of an organization in 1918 which would determine the outcome of several billion people almost a century later. Also, you would think that such a 'prophecy' would be easily understood by reading the bible alone. Not so; I had to read many Org publications on the subject before I could get a handle on how they got to that date.

The fact that they have the truth proves that they are Jehovah's organization.

The fact that they are Jehovah's organization proves that they have the truth.

Authority authschmority....'claim' being the keyword they (cults, scheisters) all use to say 'we are the truth'

Webster New Dictionary: proof, n. something which proves; test or demonstration; a. of proved strength; giving impenetrable defense against. <----- heh heh, that could be used to blow away most unique jw doctrines!

Nope, they didn't do this either. They use some not overly clever arguments no one is allowed to question maybe, but no proof. Once you know what Rutherford was up to in taking over after Russell, the whole 1918/1919 doctrine reason d'etre becomes quite clear - POWER!

They are not clear in presenting any evidence that they were selected, or that even any selection occurred at all!

    Yup, you got it.

Their claims are merely made up, improvable statements! Fantasies!

Yup, this is the game and fantasies are what many people want whether jw or not.

    boa...feeling quite cynical right now.

The Watchtower today quotes from later 1919 publications, however they omit their earlier statements which seem to support the League. The below arcticle is one of the few that appear under "League" in the 1919 reprint index, so surely the WT researchers at bethel would have read it.

We cannot but admire the high principles embodied in the proposed League of Nations, formulated undoubtedly by those who have no knowledge of the great plan of God. This fact makes all the more wonderful the ideals which they express. For instance, it has been made plain by President Wilson and the advocates of his ideas that the proposed League of Nations is more than merely a league to enforce peace. They would not have us consider it to exclusively from the standpoint of politics or of military relations. It should be considered as fully from the economic and social points of view. The President's idea seems to be that the League of Nations which he proposes would stand for world service rather than mere world regulation in the military sense, and that the very smallest of nations shall be participants in its every arrangement. In other words, his idea undoubtedly is that the league shall not be established merely for the purpose of promoting peace by threat or coercion; but that its purpose, when put into operation, will be to make all nations of earth one great family, working together for the common benefit in all the avenues of national life. Truly this is idealistic, and approximates in a small way that which God has foretold that he will bring about after this great time of trouble."
