Wow, its interesting to hear the perspective of someone who was raised in another religion, joined the witnesses and then left. Most of the people I have talked to were like myself raised witnesses.

I was raised Catholic. My mom is someone who you would almost call a cult Catholic, she's *very* churchy, and probably will never stop trying to bring me around to the Roman way. My dad is more liberal but he still goes to Mass every week and has a fairly high level of involvement at his church.

I was very rebellious in my teens and early 20's, so when the JW's came along and said "Catholics and everybody else are all wrong, here's what the Blabble really says..." - well, I was dunked less than a year later.

By the way, what part of Ohio are you from? I am from Columbus, attended the Gahanna, Canal Winchester & Reynoldsburg congs.

I was raised a J-Dub. Any religious afiliation came after I left.

I attended a Pentecostal church (became a lay minister, too) that focused on inner-city persons (ie. drug addicts, gang members, etc.).

I later attended a large non-demoninational church (Calvary Chapel).

Have worked extensively , and sat directly under the teachings of Dr. Robert Morey.

Based on this and other factors you could call me a Reformed/Calvinist/Baptist/Pentecostal Christian.

Even though I was raised a JW, most of my "worldly" family down home in kentucky are freewill baptists and I consider that my beliefs now, even though I dont attend church as often as I like, I always try to attend church with them whenever im there for a visit. For those of you unfamiliar with them, they are mostly old fashioned country churches who are even more conservative than southern baptists. I enjoy their singing and their preaching style, Twice a year they have their dinner on the grounds and a footwashing service, they also hold on to the king james bible. They are totally so opposite from my jw family, who would have thought I would have ended up there. I will say they seem to be the most sincere when it comes to their personal beliefs and they have a strong prayer life. My family there have been an inspiration on me when I was growing up through a troubled childhood, and I believe if it hadnt been for them praying for me, I might have ended up in the psych ward or on drugs

    G,Day Pinned Blouse,

Im SDA have been all my life I also studied with the witnesses, my wife is catholic but we go to the SDA for the sabbath school.

The worst doctrine the SDAs have is their 1844 investigative judgement doctrine it flys in the face of the gospel and has similar principles of interpretation as the JW 1914 doctrine. Sometimes reffered to as the historyist interpretation.

Many SdAs no longer beleive the 1844 doctrine so there is friction between the old conservatives and the more evangelical gospel group. Barry

Well, I've been dragged to Catholic services on & off over the past 20 years, including my wedding ceremony. Does that count?

I don't generally go unless there's a more secular reason (i.e., the kids have some special role in the service, or Boy Scout Sunday, or a wedding, funeral, etc). I haven't gained any faith in Cathoilicism along the way. Instead, I reserve my Sundays for Nascar, golf, and beer consumption.

I was raised Catholic, but when 14 joined JWs. Stayed nearly 8 years and left because I could no longer agree with the Watchtower Society's teachings. Returned to the Catholic Church. So, I've seen both sides and am happy with my choice.

I've never been any other religion, but if I were to choose one, I'd choose SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) which helps the bible make sense. Most of my dad's family is Catholic, and I even debated joining them when I thought that everyone needed a religion.

I live in Gahanna but I did not go to a congregation here, I went to the ones in Columbus.
