Welcome!
why didnt my conducters bring up the 1925 failure while I was studying? They failed to mention it.
They didn't tell you for the same reason they didn't mention the "other" 6 false prophet quotes they've made concerning the time of the end.
Most witnesses aren't even familiar with their pack of untruths they once taught and won't believe it even if you tll them so. If they do listen to it......they overlook it, yet are unwilling to accept any of christendom's mistakes. Only THEY are allowed to be wrong......nobody else.
Nice to have you here,
Gumby

Welcome Dallas from Oklahoma :)
This is for you, as you mentioned that the 1925 fiasco was instrumental in changing your life. Smart move!!! I call this
The Overzealous Brothers Doctrineor
The Overzealous Brothers Defense Gambit.
My comments below summarizes the very lengthy letters found at http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=14841&site=3
"These letters by uncle_onion represent a great deal of research on this matter:Wow!!!! A long quote, but this one clobbers the 'overzealous brothers' gambit.
1) The overzealous brothers doctrine defense/gambit is stated as:
"Some anticipated that the work would end in 1925, but the Lord did not state so. The difficulty was that the friends inflated their imaginations beyond reason; and that when their imaginations burst asunder, they were inclined to throw away everything." (Watchtower 1926 p. 232.)
2) The proper perspective reply would be:
Of course, having looked at the original quotes, we now understand that the "Some" who "anticipated the work would end in 1925," was really the Society who had lead the brothers to that conclusion. Contrast the statement
"but the Lord did not state so, " with what they said earlier in 1922 in The original real quote from the WT:
"This chronology is not of man, but of God. Being of divine origin and divinely corroborated, present-truth chronology stands in a class by itself, absolutely and unqualifiedly correct...." (Watchtower, July 15, 1922 p. 217).
Note that great caution was used when WTS approached 1975. They were very careful to be "slippery" and apply the "TEFLON" of "plausible deniability". This worked well, to their purpose of saving face.
In fact, they may be so gun-shy from these issues, that they are now cowering in the face of setting any new dates.
However, a "tongue-in-cheek" but likely accurate statement regarding this sorry state of affairs is the following:
"The Jehovah's Witnesses made sure, in 1984, that no one else would be able to top their record of most wrong doomsday predictions. The Witnesses' record currently holds at nine. The years are: 1874, 1878, 1881, 1910, 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, and 1984. Lately, the JWs are claiming they're out of the prediction business, but it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. They'll be back. "
