    roy, I forgot,

Oh yeah, in all seriousness. I have never read any medical evidence about pot "killing brain cells". Is that something you have read/verified?

    Tale,

Here's are a few quotes for you to consider. I'd say these are independent sources...

A Johns Hopkins University team looked at data from the 40,000 people age 21 and younger who took part in the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse. They found that 47% of those who used marijuana had been offered hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD, while only 6% of those who did not smoke pot had been offered hallucinogens. Overall, the pot smokers were at least 16 times more likely than were the nonsmokers to have had an opportunity to try hallucinogenic drugs.

Smoking three cannabis joints a day causes the same damage to the lining of the airways as 20 cigarettes. In fact, the tar from a joint contains 50% more cancer-causing substances than tobacco, says the report, published by the British Lung Foundation.

A study published in the March 6 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association is the first to look at long-term, entrenched cannabis users who were seeking treatment for their habit -- largely because they were having trouble functioning in everyday life. Previous research looking at this issue has shown altered brain function and thinking among cannabis users -- even in the unintoxicated state.

Again, I'n not on an anti-mj campaign. In their own homes people should be able to smoke whatever they want, as much as they want, whenever they want BUT don't lie to people and say that mj isn't harmful. It's dangerous and destroys the body. People should be able to make an informed decision based upon facts.

I choose not to smoke tobacco because I've seen the effects of lung cancer. I choose not to get drunk because I don't like hangovers or acting like a fool. I choose not to smoke pot because I have seen the effects on many people. As a matter of fact, my ex-boss is a pothead. Would come to work late, miss meetings, forget stuff. Pot made a mess out of this otherwise brillant engineer.

Again, these are my beliefs. People should be able to choose for themselves. I've never found pot to be a temptation. Now, an extra slice of apple pie or a big bowl of Moose Tracks ice cream or that t-bone steak...the mind is strong but the stomach is stronger! lol. I'll grill an extra steak for you this weekend in case you happen to be in the Chicagoland area. Stop on by! lol.

    Yeah, Gumby

Let me tell you about a friend I've known since I was 19. He loves his weed and has ever since I've known him. He is an engineer, he owned his own home at 40, not the bank. He is heavily involved in the union, works on local political issues. Been married to the same womyn for 15 years, has a lovely daughter (no pot around her since birth, btw). One of the sharpest tacks in the drawer.

Go figure. That's the point. It's not the mj, it's the person.

I agree that regular mj usage causes personalty changes. Your report mentions that, but not brain damage. Most of those changes are undone when a person stops smoking for a while. I notice as well, that the report talks about hallucinogenic drugs being offered, not speed or coke based. What many people fail to realise is that hallucinogens are a different class than coke, speed, heroin, meth, etc.

    I hear ya, Roy!

I don't dispute the tar facts, but still see no evidence of dead brain cells. But I will read the link later ---> promise! btw, eating a cookie is a better high, and better for ya!

Your attitude about freedom of choice is refreshing. And I agree, mj has some harmful effects, I just don't like to see misinformation. It's important that it be at least decriminalized, imho, so let's not continue to demonize it. That is my only point, really.

So, you're saying steak and Moose Tracks! I'm there! Now, who has some spare frequent flyer miles? Anyone?

My JW aunt died of leukemia not too long ago. Of course she couldn't have blood. The chemo made her so sick (uggh I shudder just remembering), it just gave her extra time.

I begged her to let me help her with the side effects. We checked with the doctor and everything. We could not get approval for medical mj quickly enough. But ultimately, she could not bring herself to do something illegal, it was against Jehovah's will. The only command she purposely broke was the one on shunning. RIP dear aunt. I miss you so. I was so angry at both the government and the JW for denying her this relief from her illness.

Another personal reason why I want it legal.

    Satanus,

Yes, I agree as well. Good points. And still, no 'dead brain cells'. Facts.

Further helps my point. It's a gateway drug because they are offered the stuff so much. Oh ya and I like the comment in that long post that guy made about how there are natural receptors for alot of the canabinoids in marijuana. Forgot to put that the first time. Forgot to put alot of things dang. I just got tired writing about it.

These results do not indicate a severe memory problem but could nevertheless mean an impairment in memory and thinking that could impact functioning in daily life, she says. The impairments develop gradually and probably become evident on tests after one or two decades of use.

Her research suggests that people using other substances -- in addition to marijuana -- would have greater impairments. However, "the risk to most medical cannabis users is likely to be small, as long as they are not maintained at high doses for many years," she writes.

Read the article. ; ) Yes, it reads like an unbiased report on a study.

That's a good wrapup. As I understand it to say, it illustrates that long-term daily use (decades) can impair brain function. It makes sense. Even trauma and non-chemical rituals (thinking JW wash, rinse, repeat) can change our brain's chemicals, eh? So why not THC?

Perhaps that is why some are affected differently/more/less than others, as is true with any chemicals (refer to SS comments earlier), caffeine included. For example, you can give me the largest dosage of Demerol that is safe, and it does absolutely nothing for me. Most people find that it makes them very high, and no pain. Not me. And I take no Rx, and no street drugs (save for what I have already mentioned, the mj). So my 'tolerance' is not high. It's zero. My body's chemistry is unique. Perhaps that is true of THC. hmmm new thought to research/ponder.

Thanks, roy. I'm tiring. Too much puter today. I went out for a really nice walk though. It's really hot out there! Holy smoke, last Friday we had frost, and today it's in the high 80s. I'll check back later to see if and how the discussion is faring. Thanks for the conversation. I learned ... and thanks to all who taught me something on this thread.

Summer's arrived in Bonny New Scotland. Aye!

This is the low down on pot.....It will turn your brain to mush and your long and short term memory will be shorted out and it causes A-motivational syndrome.{ you don't give a bleep about what's important like a job } Life as a burned out pot head is nearly as bad as an alcoholic life with 'wet brain'. I know because I have interacted with hundreds of Rain Cloudassociates.Schoolmates, workmates, guys and gals.THC has a half-life of 8 days,so if you smoke 1 joint once a week.It has an enduring accumulative affect I am not being a self righteous prude. It is the truth. If there was a happy drug out there that wasn't highly addictive and had no wicked side effects.I would be taking it!! I Love You Mug 2 Danny cares and shares When I ran my crew.I laid down the Law NO POT! That was the only stipulation because pot heads cost me $$$$$

Now that's some true honest research I tell ya! Maybe you should read some facts ....like you did about the dubs..., before giving a non-factual opinion? Gumby

LOL yeah I'm really scary! To clearify I'm a cyclist now, however in my earliest biker days (Harley's), my early teens was when I experimented with pot enough to know I really loved it, I loved it so much it scared me, I'm glad it scared me and I didn't continue to use it. I knew too well what an addictive life style was like and wanted no part of that for myself and my future 85 kids.

Life ain't for the faint hearted and I would like to add to that I would rather do life sober than stoned anytime.

OH MY GOD THE BIKERCHIC IS TALKING TO ME! ( To self: don't make eye contact, don't make eye contact, don't make eye contact, don't make eye contact ))
