I talked to my mother yesterday. I had to call her regarding my Brother's legal name (why are all the names in my family f***ed up??) Anyway, she told me that she was getting my dad's (old meeting) suit ready for my wedding, and he got pissed off and said, "Oh, so you're forcing me to go?" Poor dad, being forced to attend his son's wedding.

I told my mother to just let him come on his own. Don't encourage him, but don't discourage him. Basically, just keep out of it unless he requests the help. It's kinda irritating that I have to continually tell my mother this. She's got this idea in her head that I REALLY want him there. Yeah right.

That is sad and repulsive, it was a huge fight to get my husband to our daughters wedding. Next time one of my kids gets married ,he won't be asked.

((((Nos)))) This is YOUR day and your Bride's day. You will be amazed at how wonderful it is, without some loved ones there. My parents refused to come to my wedding almost two years ago. But it was still one of the best days of my life. Honestly...I didn't even miss them. Good luck and blessing to both of you!

Sometimes I think mothers (not all of them) have a special filter built into their hearing.

If what you are saying doesn't fit into their perception of the issue, then all they hear is blah, blah, blah.

Then they fill in the blank with what they wanted you to say.

Kind of like the dog in the Far Side cartoon. You know the one.

What people say:

"Hi fido! Good dog. What a nice boy. You wanna play fetch, Fido? Come on, let's go to the park. After that, I'll get you a special food treat. Come on, boy."

What dogs hear:

"blah Fido! blah blah blah blah blah blah Fido blah blah blah blah food blah blah"

You may have to be really hard lined with her and tell her to stop. I have had to do this once or twice. My dad didn't want to come to my wedding, and it shows on his face in all of the pictures. I hope he decides that we wants to be there when his son gets married, but if he really doesn't don't let it get you down. He'll have to live with it- you just enjoy the day with the love of your life!
