Who are you?

Many people do post on this board, and many of the participants do spend a lot of hours every day/week helping others by answering to private mails. Many do get lots of private phone calls, and spend a lot of time talking to people on phone as well.

Others are here to discuss, find friends, socialize with others – and generally have a good time. The nice thing about the net is the possibilities of finding new friends. If I get the money needed to go on a holiday this year, I will probably go to Germany, England or France – and it’s good to know there is people there I know from the net. People I can visit and people who will greet me if I show up on their doorstep!

Therefore I was thinking of this:

Why don’t I make some pages on the Watchtower Observer where we can tell a little something about ourselves? Where we live, a photo or two, in short – some kind of “Let’s Get To Know Each Other Better” page.

I don’t know if anyone do think this is a good idea. Some people simply can’t do this because of obvious reasons – while others don’t have that problem.

    Any ideas on this subject?

The ones that do think it’s a good idea, why not send me a mail with the text to go with the picture – and I can start making this stuff ready. I will, of course, make special pages just for this.

Kent, that is a neat idea. If I get a chance today, I will start typing up something.

HI Kent: I think you have a great idea. On that list there is a column to add comments, and one can note there thier screen name on JWD so that we can recognize them. I am on that list, but I have not yet noted my screen name. I have been out long enough and have no remaining reason not to reveal my real name. The only thing holding me back has been to thought that the WTS has trolls here. And, I want to keep them in suspense as to who exactly I may be. But, they should be able to find out, since the Society sent out people to my old congregation to check things out after my certified letter to the Society regarding potential legal action. And, then eventually referred to me at a Circuit Assembly as the Chief Apostate of the Pacific Northwest. Of course there are bigger and badder apostates in that region than me. I was still honored nevertheless.

Good grief! The Watchtower Printing Corporation has to have classes and sub-classes for EVERYTHING! They now have a sub-class of the "apostate" class: "Chief Apostate!" Next there will be a Governing Body of Apostates, Branch Apostate Overseers, District Apostates, Circuit Apostates, Special Pioneer Apostates, Pioneer Apostates and R&F Apostates. Some apostates will be very spiritually weak, others in the demonized class; there will be regular apostates, irregular apostates and inactive apostates. Only qualified apostates will be allowed to run mics at apostofests, and only apostates with years of faithful service will be eligible for apostate charity. If an apostate is not doing his or her research, they are not "reaching out" and will be judged accordingly. Apostate Circuit Overseers will duly make notes about such people and duly send them back to Apostate Central in triplicate.

The society better order several new floors worth of filing cabinets to keep track of all those classes. Imagine all that new freaking paperwork they'll have to manage just to track of us and clases of us!

    That is too funny!

    Hi Amazing

I think you have a great idea. On that list there is a column to add comments, and one can note there thier screen name on JWD so that we can recognize them.

Yeah. I'm not sure what list you are talking about here - but if you think of the list we can make, it's a great idea to list the screen-names both here on JW.com and in other forums where we use to be.

It's so much more fun to "know" the persons you're talking to - and a simple thing as an image does a lot to feel you start to "know" a person.

If anyone do have an idea for some "standard" informations, like:

Name, Address, screennames, telephone, email etc - please let me know.

As I said before, I'm fully aware some people can't come forward with names and addresses - and not images either. But even people who have to stau anonymous could be on these pages!. After all, they use a SCREEN-NAME here on JW.com, and that could be used instead of the "normal" name when neccesary.

It would be practical, though, if someone wanted to be anonymous - to know the reason for this choise. I don't say anyone should be extremely spesific - but some kind of a reason for the choise.

When the new pages are ready (they are ALMOST finished, but my "guru" at my ISP is in Poland just now) it will be possible to actually SEARCH for the names - in that directory. This means the search inside this directory only will produce the info you're looking for :))

I hope I do get someone to start; and Mulan has said she's on to it!

    Great!!!

    Kent,

Marvellous idea. You surprise me. For someone with such a high profile on this apostate nonsense thing, and someone often not known for his subtlety of manners, I take my hat off to you again. 18 months ago, your own Watchtower Observor site, your efforts at H20 and now here have been instrumental (along with others like AF, Amazing and JanG) in saving what's still left of my new life after Jehovah's Witnesses. That Yahoo! subhead about Hitler and the Jehovah's Witnesses finally got me in one lonesome night when I decided I needed to look somewhere else for the Truth. Thank you.

I turned 50 last Sunday and I'm feeling a whole lot better about things now than when I turned 40. Or during those years when I was always kind of passively angry at life; just another silent misery masquerading as one of 'God's happy people''. No more. I'm doing my thing now; crazy things too like driving 1000 kilometres in a couple of months to demonstrate against globalisation in Melbourne.

'And what's with that stupid grin anyway?'

    'Life's been good to me.'

In return, if I can do some small bit to help others to see the light of falsity now shining so brightly on the poor old Watchtower Society, I'll be there.

Does not everybody like the thought of reading about other people's stories and bios? The Internet truly brings together people from all over the world. All us ex-Witnesses here, no matter how different our past experiences may be, will always share a special bond of unity. It's this same thread of angst and happiness which is so fascinating and unique. Your latest concept could certainly cement some history.

I'd personally like to see a cap placed on the word length - that's the ruthless self-editor in me speaking now - of say a thousand words. That way you could collect a lot more interesting reads without losing the impact, or worse, people's attention.

Although quite a few posters here are already familar with my own tragic tale of Rocky Horror Witness Show behaviour, for those who don't, and for posterity, I would like to formalise the why in and why out especially. I will get around to it soon. Just wish I had a scanner so I could send you a picture, too.

Got a title for this new feature? And why not try Southern Italy for your holiday this year? Regards and keep up the good work.

Hey Venny, when did Tishie close down?? I have been on there for months. I never did recover from the "homo stuff" incident. Besides, Simons is so much cooler.

    Hi Uncanny!

Marvellous idea. You surprise me. For someone with such a high profile on this apostate nonsense thing, and someone often not known for his subtlety of manners, I take my hat off to you again.

Thank you. I might have a high profile in lots of “nonsense” things, but such stuff works as some kind of an education too. As I have said many times before, and others have told numerous times, ex-JWs need to learn how to handle differences of opinion. Therefore a few good fights are really sound, they are healthy, and we all learn quite a lot about the others.

When this is said, I do feel it’s important to learn to know each other a bit better than we normally do. Chat is nice, because in a chat people tend to say what they feel there and then – and their opinions aren’t edited material written after a lot of thought.

As I said, getting to know each other is rather nice, and being able to travel around the world visiting people we know from the net is fantastic! I’ve done that – and I’m sure many others have.

Personally I think it’s cool when someone visits Norway, calls me up, and can stay with us for a while. I really do – and since I now have a bigger house, my guestroom is ready most of the time. I guess that’s the same for lots of others here on this board as well, and therefore pages like the one we’re talking about here could be nice.

We could also add some info about the place we live. Many people travel around, and they might want to see things, want to do things – what ever. Maybe we could add a little something about the area we live in. Personally, I would like to know about ANY vineyard in the near of your homes! LOL

I turned 50 last Sunday and I'm feeling a whole lot better about things now than when I turned 40.

Congratulations! I did beat you, since I turned 50 March 6.

Lets get on with this thing – and you could send me your picture(s) by snailmail – and I will scan them for you if nobody else can.
