    > where they are still selling literature for a set price in field service.

They have not been doing this since 2000 when the introduced the donation basis worldwide.

since we were never Christians, but Publishers

An interesting comment, but one that the R&F would surely dispute.
I've often wondered about it myself, too, and right now am of the opinion that being "christian" is only incidental in the life of a Dub.

To give an example, I recently attended a Dub funeral where the Funeral talk was given by an elder serving as a P.O.. He failed to mention Jesus once in the whole of his talk!!!!!!!

I think in many halls time counting is pushed not to gauge you, but gauge the elders in your hall. Every plea was not "please turn in your time friends to please Jehovah.? but more like "please turn in your time it is brother X's responsibility as sectary to have it in by the 5th, and we really don?t wana make it hard on him [cough C.O. is coming]." So it is more like the elders are kept under control with time counting more than anything

BTW, in German there is no JW-word like publisher, it is proclaimer.

Nobody here likes publisher either. It is like a status that does not exist. Unless you are actualy describing the the pecking order.

Reporting time is an absolute slap in the face of Christianity. It drains every last bit of heart from a work that is supposed to spring purely from within.

That being said, I don't think JWs will stop reporting time. The entire social network runs on field service reports. Doing away with reporting would be taking sides with Christ, not with their slave-driving, petty, vicious God figure.

It's quite a sensitive thing, IMO. For all the people that might be gained from going mainstream, just as many would leave if their "pioneer" or "40 hour a month publisher" title was taken away.

What would they push the children to do? How can it be proven that you have "made the truth your own" without hard data submitted monthly? How else would they prove their love for god?

JW theory is, at its core, physically oriented. They promise a garden of earthly delights, not heaven for the masses. All sacrifice is documented. Nothing is really between "you and God", it's between you and the service committee, between the congregation and the circuit overseer, and on up to the line to the Governing Body, where the chain ends because these charlatans have absolutely no guidance from anyone higher than themselves (unless, of course, there actually is a devil, in which case he is their inspiration).

The reporting of time and the ensuing guilt of not reporting enough time are the wind in the sails of the JW movement.

That is because 99% of JWs are not "christians". It is whipping a dead horse. Those born again christians running the place hardly every count time or do field service cuz the have Jesus and the holy spirit to keep them warm. What are the us normies that just want to pet pandas in purgatory gonna do?

I doubt they would ever drop it. Look at the disatrous results from them dropping automatic payment for the literature and went on a strickly "donation" basis? I'd guess that 70% of Dubs don't pay for the literature or collect any uh "voluntary donations" at the doors either. Look at what's happened since they dropped Food Services from all of the assemblies? There's never enough voluntary "donations" to pay the bills now---not a problem they had 20 years ago.

And like others here have mentioned, if they dropped the whole "reporting to the el Comm-a-dant" how many hours you faked spent out in Service, they wouldn't be able to browbeat people like they do now---there'd be no distinguishing between someone who got 70 hours and someone who got zero hours----the hiearchy within the congregations would all vanish, or at least become more muddled and god knows, the whole frigging Organization would collapse if we didn't have the hiearchy system in place.........
