Apostates haven't done a thing to give Jehovah a bad name. He's done it all himself, by letting his organization make wrong predictions about the end, by associating themselves with the United Nations, and by letting them shelter child molesters.
It's that, or the Watchtower Society really isn't God's organization.

Very true. JW's are quite capable of doing that all on their own, as they continue to demonstrate every day.

Towards the end of my WT days when dealing with one particular frustrating elder who was spewing his nonsense at me about what he and the other elders, overseer, organization felt and thought I cried in front of him and said "I don't even think sometimes that we are worshipping the same God!"
Of course I realized as soon as I said that he would translate this into meaning that if I am not serving the same God of the WT that he was serving than I must be serving Satan ( black and white WT thinking)
I don't know, after perusing the OT for many childhood years, I'd say he did a very good job of making a bad name for himself ...

Why are so many people so caught up in this ancient writing? What good has it brought about?
Why not be more interested in the Egyptian heretic god Aten? It was also a monotheistic form of worship sponsered by the Heretic Pharoah Akhenaten in Egypt 3000 years ago and predates Christianity. Surely its age must make it pertinent in todays world
.....I make this point only to further say that from my perspective....it is all the same....ancient history with no bearing on todays culture or lifestyle. Like the ancient Greek of Roman Gods; it has the life; realism and influence that we ( humanity) give it.
