Well had some strong disagreements for about 4 years. Left my JW husband after he let our son die by refusing blood for him after an accident. The marriage was lousy anyway. Was disfellowshipped July 20th 2001 went to some meetings after that, one memorial in 2002. Then I began to really read on the internet and research the WTS. What I found out through their own literatures was enought to break the mind control they had over me. I count myself as being completely free of it mentally for 2 plus years.

It is funny when we think of it. It was a gradual process for nearly all of us. Actually takes a period of years. Even some people who are disfellowshipped still cling to the the believe that God is speaking through the WTS. I have some ex-jw friends who still cling to it even after years of being away from it. I think being free of the brain washing is the real key to freedom and reading is the only thing that will break that. And all one can do is read everything we can and just reading the bible without the WTS can make a difference.

Like a couple of others noted, it depends on the definition or on how you look at it.

I've had doubts for years and years but blocked them like a good little dubbie. But the generation change really kind of sent me on my way out, slowly. I still went through the motions but the zeal and faith wasn't there anymore. I guess it's been two years ago when I finally got the nerve to strike out on my own somewhat and do outside research on the WTS. I haven't been in service for going on 4 years now, I can't even remember what's like to go out. Even though I consider myself mostly free of the borg, on rare occasion I do go to a memorial, assembly or rarer still the hall for a regular meeting. Family obligations and all, ya know. The last meeting I went to was soo hard to sit through. It's all BS.

I envy those who are complety free of it all, but as long as I have family in, the WTS will have some small part in my life, hate it though I do.

Mentally speaking, since the 1914 generation "New Light" came about. Working on being out physically very soon; taking baby steps for now.

I'll bet that the majority that have left have done it slowly---1st in their minds, then in practice.

I was doing the "fade" but couldn't take it anymore. I walked out of the Kingdom Hall in December 2001 total fed up, I had had ENOUGH!!! Such freedom that day! Haven't been back except for the Memorial of 2002. I still go to the Assemblies with my hubby to keep him company, but I refuse to go to the Memorial.
