I think it is so frustrating when you step back from this religion. When you start to learn what really goes on. You realize how ignorant everyone in the religion is. That is very frustrating to me. Atleast Catholics and other religion have some knowlegde of the faults inside thier doors. JW's ussually have the wool over their eyes and seem so happy in about it.
Are we too hard on INDIVIDUAL JW's?

To attack them on an individual basis isn't fair in my opinion. I always try to remember how I felt when I was on the other side of the door....nervous, anxious and in full belief that what I was doing was in a effort to (a) share the hope filled message in the bible and (b) please my family....either motivator, no matter how incorrect, was not evil in it's intent. I, at the time and many I knew were genuine and held the belief that we were doing what was right and required of them.

We shouldn't look at it as being hard on them. They are well trained with rebuttals, including the catch-all "I can do some research on that and get back to you." Others being hard on ME was the only reason I started questioning the beliefs, finding out the REAL truth, and eventually seeing the light.

I vus only followen da orders "I was only following orders" didn't cut it at Nuremburg(Nazi War crimes trial) and it
doesn't cut it now.
Matthew 12:36 :: Amplified Bible (AMP) Matthew 12
36 But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every [1] idle pernicious (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak.[ pernicious \pur-NISH-us\, adjective:
Highly injurious; deadly; destructive; exceedingly harmful.Half-truths can be more pernicious than outright
falsehoods.] -

To compare offering a tract to committing a war crime is a tad far fetched

Brad,
you did the right thing for yourself and your kids; do not EVER doubt that. By an large the Jehovahs Witnesses are a close minded, ignorant group. It is a state of mind; by choice. I have no sympathy for them. As Supermommy said in her post; even the Catholic faith respects and encourages higher education; the Jesuit order has some of the best academic schools in the USA. Most religions; all in fact that I know of including Judism; encourage their young followers to make the most of themselves and do not discourage any secular education .
Your children would have no future to themselves had you kept them in the JW religion.
I am more reactive to your comment of your x mother in law abusing your 4 year old and telling her to blame you.
Please do not let that go. That could have potential damage ( not only the obvious with Social Services knocking at your door ) but long term pschcological consequences for the child. And if that was my mother in law ----I am afraid of what I MIGHT DO TO HER IN A FIT OF PROTECTIVE RAGE for my child.
I think your open mindedness to the Jehovahs Witnesse is healthy ( for you; and for the children to see that is a good example of how to behave) and I try to do the same. However there reaches a point where we say " this may be your choice--but it is not mine" and draw the line very firmly.

Whether or not the average dubby is "braindead" or not may not be the issue. The standard that Jesus set while hanging on the cross, I think was appropriate. Paraphrasing, He said "For give them father for they know not what they are doing." Most witlesses are pretty ignorant but well intended. They have CHOSEN to remain ignorant by buying into the committment that the "annointed" and FDS are divinely inspired, directed or whatever. So when they accede to the impulses of the "divinely chosen" elders et al, they are doing so out of willful ignorance. Guilty as charged! Braindead? Perhaps, but if so, by choice!

I am still figuring out how I can tactfully blast the WT when I am approached by JWs who are trying to suck me back into the Org. They continue to blast me for leaving, so why do I have to cover the truth from them? I don't want to hurt them, but in a sense then am I protecting them or am I protecting their beloved Org? These are questions that I continue to ponder...

Obviously Secret
Nobody has to cover the truth from anybody. :sigh: I always say this but not all JW's are closed minded people, they aren't dumb either. Just don't know a few things like everybody on this planet. Lol I'm pretty much a dubby and all my teachers say I'm the most open minded kid they ever met. However, anyways, if a dub (personally) "attacks" you, sure attack them back. Just don't feel it as too cool as to just start bringing back all your past angers on the person into a fit of telling the truth. I mean hard to think of something as bad when your whole family and everything is in it.
Plus, everybodies needy. Why do you think we have friends? People join sports and stuff, I don't think they are needy but oh well.

I don't think we are hard enough because most of were once dubs. We may feel sorry for them and might not be as confrontational as we should be, as we have the right to be upset and let them know what we think!
