    Doesn't that upset the grooms?

I read in TIME magazine that FEWER Americans are independent voters this election year than in most recent elections. That is, MORE are loyal Democrats or loyal Republicans, and will mainly vote for their party's candidates.

I call that "blind loyalty". Probably it's just simpler to pick a party and vote that way then to try to break down who's better (or the least evil of the available candidates).

I can't fathom myself voting either for the self-serving Bush or the can't-talk-straight Kerry. I guess that narrows my decent choices to Ralph Nader or the Libertarian candidate.

Thanks, Avi, for starting this post. I really do abhore Bush, and I am not thrilled with the prospect of Kerry either. As Simon points out, sometimes you just have to weigh the matter and choose between the lessor of the two evils. Michael Moore, while I believe that much of his work is fact based, but with a nice little spin, and if he is lying or misrepresenting some of the facts, he is only doing what the other side is doing. It is (political) warfare, so to speak, and propoganda has always been a tremendous part of wartime strategy. If anyone faults Moore, then they must also fault their own propogandists as well. No one is innocent and everyone is going to withhold the truth to an extent, or at least tweak the truth to suit their purposes.

I say vote for Martin Sheen. Aron Sorkin will script the perfect term for the man. Let's also bring back Mandy. She was cute.

I think most people in general are ill-informed of the issues. This is not entirely their fault, as the media is monopolized.

Kerry is too well-educated and well-spoken to resort to simplistic comic-book slogans ("Dead or Alive!" "Bring 'em On!" "Mission Accomplished!") and this may alienate poorly educated, simplistic folks who identify with simplistic thinking. "Stay the course," is the latest example. Although Pres. Bush has flip-flopped on the reasons for the war, though they deny it now (but it's on the record in the media).

Kerry's voting record is similar to most senators, in that it can look conflicting because bills can be very complicated and at one point include horrific "pork bellies," and then when it's amended, vote for it. For that reason, senators aren't usually elected to the presidency because it looks as if they've flip-flopped. Kerry is also criticized for voting for the war---who didn't besides Dennis Kucinich? It doesn't mean he's committed to "stay the course," when it's the wrong course.

This is just my two cents,

    Pat

    P. S. Oops! I didn't stick to the topic of the thread and presented partisan views! For the record, I'm an independent and do not agree with many platforms of the Democrats either. I just don't like the way the country is going and it's my right to vote to change it when it's time.

Yes, but is'nt that what we bitch about? How the other side spins it? Does that make it right?Does that help people? No. That is one of the main reasons most of us have a big prob. with the JW's, their lies and spin.

Besides, MM is'nt a politician. He's supposed to be a documentary filmmaker. A journalist, or at least that's what we are led to believe!

I have more admiration for moore on this film, because in the ABC interview, instead of referring to this as a documentary, he calls it an op-ed piece. So I guess his Palm D'Or is not valid. Last I heard, op-ed and documentary's are entirely seperate.

What issue? I would like to see that for myself.

All the figures I have heard is that roughly 1/3 Democrats, 1/3 Republicans, and 1/3 Independent. In fact I just read this morning in the L.A. Times an article on polling data that supports this point.

Drives me crazy too. My brother couldn't wait to let me hear the new liberal news radio while I was visiting him in Portland. After about 10 seconds I said NOOOOOOOOOOOO I could never listen to that. It sounded just like Rush! All this harsh sounding loud barking about the other guys! Yikes!!!! I do claim to be mostly democrat, but I have to say that I'm not really hot about Kerry, but I would vote for a yellow dog over Bush.

Yes it is the lesser of the evils. And this is probably the last time I'll post on a political thread!!
