Thanx for all the trouble you went trough to provide us with this wealt of material. You are a true martyr. Nice use of the bible against the "one- true-religion: us'' theme they keep harping on.

Thank you for taking one for the team!
Of course, if you were a woman, I don't think you would ever have gotten the access to the admin office and all that....
thank you for the info.....If my mom talks about the convention next time we are on the phone I will be prepared to know what she may bring up.
Yes, that was a very noble sacrifice on your part. Thanks for the info.
Did anyone notice on page 3, CONTRIBUTIONS-It is the longest paragraph in the whole program!!!
Thank you for your post! I can see that I'm not missing anything. I can be prepared if my brother tries to talk to me about the convention.

With Elswheres beard, manner of dress etc. I'm surprised he got past the attendants in the parking lot. Plus he was toting recording equipment and obviously knows how to counter their arguments, well, you would think he would have been shot trying to get into the admin offices.
Great post ...good work.
I do have a question. Did they have any problems with you recording the prayers? When I was a kid my dad would record the assemblies for the ones (lucky famlies) that couldn't come but he always turned the recorder off before the prayer would start. I didn't know if there was a reason for that or just his own rule.

You're the best!
And your post was hilarious.
You will need a year to recuperate from that spiritual banquet.
Thanks again

Else,
Great day out hey? Thanks for this, good post.
I have a question; nothing new, but I only just noticed. Why does the program (and the WTS) refer to the convention goers as 'delegates?'
To be a delegate implies being delegated to go somewhere as a representative. Most conventions that have delegates are this way with a selected group of attendees chosen to represent a larger body of people. Afterall, not all local Democratic or Republican party members attend their respective party conventions, they send delegates. So why does the WTS use this word when congregations are expected to attend en-mass? Am I missing something or is this a hold-over from another era?

Hey Elsewhere!
Yes you did take one for the team!! Wow, you brave soul, you!!
he kicked into "love bomb - I'm your new best friend - lets make small talk" mode and finally let me park. He was a young idealistic JW who had not yet been introduced to the find art of spotting and giving dirty looks to "outsiders".
an attendant actually went out of his way to find a program for me a few minutes after he seated me
"Were they able to help you in the Attendants office?" Damn! I had a shadow! I could tell that this guy was assigned to follow me around and watch me. He tried to make friendly conversation... so I thought I would use this to my advantage. I told him that I was looking for a good place to setup my recorder and he, trying to keep an eye on me, suggested I go to the Administration office.
JWs have a pathalogical need to impress "worldly" people...
I see you've received some "proper" Informal Witnessing?!! LOL LOL
trying to explain to me why I could not record the convention without actually telling me "no".
You mean, someone wanted to hamper your constitional rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of tape recording devices in a public not-for-profit venue??
The "shadow" guy ... told me that they don't usually get people "off the street" like me. I gave him a puzzled look and showed him the print out from the jw-media.org web site that said that the public was invited and encouraged to attend the conventions... he didn't have much to say to that and was forced to allow me to continue... I, of course, had word directly from the Faithful and Discreet Slave!!! How could he contradict that???Now that, my friend, is just PRICELESS!! ROFLMAO!! You sure trumped his @$$, didn't you?!?! LOL
JWs have the pathalogical need to talk to "worldly" people about the "truth"... I was more than willing to talk to the first unsuspecting guy who sat next to me. He instantly knew I was not a JW and asked about my beliefs and asked if I was a christian. I kept it simple and just said "no"... I'm not a christian. You got more than your fair share of Informal Witnessing? that day.... you really deserve a medal!
I talk about freedom of religion and con[science] and how important it is... how everyone has that right... how I'm not about to try to attack another person's faith as that would be wrong because a person's faith is a very personal matter and a source of their happiness. A JW cannot pubicly dispute this because of all of their court cases that claim the very same thing.LMAO: Trumped again!! Good show!
he eventually tried to tell me that there is only one true religion... but I remined him about Luke 9:49, 50
Luke 9:49-50: In response John said: "Instructor, we saw a certain man expelling demons by the use of your name and we tried to prevent him, because he is not following with us." But Jesus said to him: "Do not YOU men try to prevent [him], for he that is not against YOU is for YOU."This got him to shut up real quick and he just mumbled something about "context"... basically he was totally unaware of that scripure and he suddenly noticed that he had to go.
Dontcha just love it when they realize that they don't know the Bible as well as you do?? For an atheist, you're pretty damn impressive!! LOL LOL
Interesting things from your notes:
Must take baby steps in spiritual growth
Gee, I guess people are harder to brainwash these days. It used to be possible to suck them in in under 6 months. Either people are getting smarter, or the WTS and JWs are losing their touch. LOL
Need to target foriegn language groups (English market is saturated in the US)
Yep, those immigrants are eager to belong to "something" (even if it's a cult) and have the appearance of being accepted by North Americans. They pay ¢a$h for everything too, so probably won't be so stingy at the Contribution Boxes? as the rest of their people are becoming.
Thanks for sharing this with us. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Love, Scully
