I have a question; nothing new, but I only just noticed. Why does the program (and the WTS) refer to the convention goers as 'delegates?'To be a delegate implies being delegated to go somewhere as a representative. Most conventions that have delegates are this way with a selected group of attendees chosen to represent a larger body of people. Afterall, not all local Democratic or Republican party members attend their respective party conventions, they send delegates. So why does the WTS use this word when congregations are expected to attend en-mass? Am I missing something or is this a hold-over from another era?
Probably because the JWs are literally assigned to which convention and dates to attend. I remember talks that scolded JWs for daring to attend conventions that they were not assigned.
Thanks everyone! I just got up and I'm trying to decide if I want to attempt to go again.
Oh, and regarding recording prayers... I was able to record the closing prayer. The attendant who tried to talk me out of recording anything was actually kneeling over my recorder at the time so that he could perform some sort of maintenance on the speaker. He didn't seem to have a problem with it... or perhaps he was very distracted with trying to figure out what to say to me. He seemed a bit embarrassed about what all he "tried" to tell me before and had kicked into "try to impress the worldly guy" mode. I think he knew that he screwed up royally by clearly demonstrating the true nature of the organization: A closed, high control cult.
Hmmm... come to think about it... he had a little walkie-talkie and was holding the "talk" button down during the entire prayer... and he started doing this just before the prayer started. In the past I have noticed that transmitters will interfere with electronics... I wonder if he was trying to scramble my recording of the prayer? I'll go test my recording and see if the prayer was recorded correctly.
