I have heard that Greek teacher, Nicholas Kip, whose story, "How Knowing Greek Led Me to Know God",appeared in the March 22, 1987 Awake!, does not attend meetings anymore.

There was a life-story of a diabled spanish brother.

I read a far more comprehensive Auto-biography of his, that he wrote after he left the organisation. He mentiond every few months they use life-stories of those who cope with adversity in there lifes and are exemplary in the service as a sort of way to make the reader feal they should and could be doing more.

Nothing to do with the above but I missed many great football matches because of my dedication to the service. Now that my 1 year old T:V broke on thusday I have missed the English game The Swedish game and am listning to tonights match on the net.

It was those darn life stories and experiences that helped me through my first cognitive dissonance with da troof back in the early 90's - GRRRR

I read and read and read them....including past year books until I was motivated enough to start reg. pio. again in the mid-90's - ACK!

Jeez, I feel like a real heel now....all those years riding the emotional roller coaster of org propaganda

    boa...sheesh

I have known of only one story from my JW past that appeared in the Awake! (or was it the Watchtower,........like THAT matters) - A "sister" that had a bitter custody battle with her unbelieving x husband was exalted as an exemplary witness (approximately 1980 or so) for her staunch stance against his intense "push" for his daughters to be involved in his life at Christmas time, birthdays, his desire for the girls to be in the school plays, etc. etc.

As you might have guessed, she not only is NOT a witness, neither are her daughters, and I know her now as a zealous celebrant of Christmas, birthdays, and involves her daughter from her second marriage in school activities, cheerleading, etc. etc. - She also LOVES her cigarettes, and frequent trips to the local strip club with her hubby.................

Odd to think about this person, now. She was such a local legend for a few years back then, and was the subject of local news programs, and a magazine article.

    PRAISE JAH, YOU PEOPLE!!!!

A family in our congo was pictured in the mag as being some of those fine examples of long line of faithful witnesses. They were all standing there smiling and supposedly joyous, but I knew them well enough to know of the maritial problems, their troubled children, the mental insanity and judgemental atttitudes. It bothered me that they were being used as a fine example to us all--I knew they weren't all they were made out to be--their story in many ways was a fabrication.

I only know of one, it was about the sister who had 15 children and walked 80 miles wach way to attend meetings throught crocidle infested swamps. By the way these were hour book studies also, not just regular meetings! Today this sister is known as Sister lefty cause one of those crocs ate her right arm off!

    Hi Trumangirl

I agree with you on what you said,

"Now I realise that these experiences would have been censored and edited for maximum affect on the readers."

I feel the same way about all those stories now.

    sincerely

    Trumangirl,

The life stories, often repeated in slightly different variations, where the seven year old child argues with the local Catholic Bishop over the Trinity and comes of victorious, are the ones that I find most amusing. The problem is that they retrieved these stories from 110 year old JW's who having read about one such experience in the magazines, obviously mixed fantasy with reality and came up with loosely cloned stories.

I mean how many children argue with Catholic Bishop's? 144,000?

I was thinking along the line of some of the comments already written that there were plenty things left unsaid...Of the few stories I know of personally.the people are still in wts.and one was accurate.but the bro.was such a jerk.even knowing his story didn't help you like his personality.

Then don't know her personally but was told of a woman thats story published who is no longer a jw.dfd for adultery.
