You are so right. History has shown time and again that Appeasement is the answer. Appeasement won WWll, and ever other major war on the planet...what is wrong with you people...?

Perhaps some of the rightwing nutjobs on this db are truly mentally challenged, but then again, perhaps they just missed this (rather obvious) point: "Appeasement" is not the only option to "escalating violence". I suppose a bloodthirsty little "lord of the flies" type boy might see anything that doesn't involve violent bloodshed as "appeasement", but then again, those little boys need lead in their head, don't they.

To be fair, I don't really think Dolphman's suggestion in this case is escalating violence. The west does have to strike back against terrorist the best way possible, and it is certainly the truth to say that the religion of Islam is harboring, even creating terrorism, far more so than any state. The religion is not an innocent bystander in all of this (Iraq, while maybe not innocent, was pretty much a bystander). I think it is important for the West to let all of Islam know that we won't fight a religious war, we have no intention of being dragged into a religious war, but if forced we will seek the targets that will most effectively stop religiously inspired terrorism.

The irony of this to me is that if it comes down to a war between god and men, well, man is going to win.

But beyond all that, we need to understand our enemy. Here's a hint, they don't hate-us-for-our-freedom, and in many cases they have legitimate reasons to hate us.

If you can find any thing I've ever said that could be construed as me having that mindset, post it. If you think my saying that sometimes, "they" have reason to hate the west fits the bill, you have a serious comprehension problem. If you have no desire to find out the real reason for your enemies actions, because you accept the first ridiculous thing that falls out of your own uninformed mouth (like "they hate us for our freedom", or "they hate us for eating pork"), you would do well to either think harder and deeper, or withold forming opinions.

And do you think those poor liberated Afghani women, if they entered this discussion would go "yeah, see, that double edge guy understands... our men hated the USA for their freedom"? No, they would marvel that a human could have his head so far up his ass that he had ZERO interest in actually ascertaining and understanding the reasons behind his country being attacked and his countrymen killed.
