The Random House Dictionary of the English Language defines Idolize as: 1. To regard with blind adoration, DEVOTION, etc; 2. To worship as a God.

Devoted is defined as: Zealous or ardent in attachment, loyalty, or affection. Devotee is also defined as a 1. person who is greatly Devoted to something; 2. A person who is exteremely devoted to a RELIGION; A FOLLOWER.

Could the WTBTS actually be considered an Idol? Do they not teach that they should be DEVOTED not only to Jehovah, But to Jehovah's Organization? Are not the followers ZEALOUS in spreading the word by use of the Orgs. Literature, rather than God's spoken word? And do they not show AFFECTION and LOYALTY for God's visible channel of Communication, namely the Org?

The Dubs Idolize the Org. so much that they are willing to sacrifice their lives, give up their family members, etc. They are the Blind, Idolatrous Hypocrites! They try to avoid the real issue by focusing the attention on minor details, to try to justify themselves, and keep people's attention focused on these small things; Flags, etc., so as to not bring attention to there own hypocritical actions.

I have seen many brothers in the JW's including elders & ministerial servants using that silly tower symbol

in their: Bible covers, lapels, tie pins/clips, letterheads (personal) & many many more

Are they not idols? when used in this manner?

If I were a dub, I would not be disturbed about the existence of banners or flags in Israel. After all it is not what an item is, but the place it holds in your heart that makes it an idol. I thought this was relevant

    9/15 p. 25 "Salvation Belongs to Jehovah" ***
"An employer, for example, may ask an employee to raise or lower a flag displayed at a building. Whether an individual would do so or not depends on his personal view of the circumstances. If raising or lowering the flag is part of a special ceremony, with people standing at attention or saluting the flag, then performing this act amounts to sharing in the ceremony.
On the other hand, if no ceremony accompanies the raising or lowering of the flag, then these actions constitute nothing more than performing such tasks as preparing the building for use, unlocking and locking the doors, and opening and closing the windows. In such instances, the flag is simply an emblem of the State, and raising or lowering it among other routine tasks is a matter for personal decision based on the dictates of one?s Bible-trained conscience"

somebody said that sporting flags were verboten, Not exactly true, although they are discouraged . But you can't be d/fd for a Manchester United or New York yankees penant - and how do you turn the colour back to black?

That didn't used to be the thinking. I remember as a child that our school had two boys raise and lower the flag each day. This duty was assigned to two different boys each day. I remember having to try to explain why I couldn't share in this idolatry. It didn't go over very well. Even now when I see a flag in certain situations those memories come back. After 9/11 our company put up a flag(they never had one before) and I remember driving in to work and seeing it. The first irrational thought through my head was, "oh no, I hope they don't ask me to raise or lower it". Irrational, yes. But it shows how strong the indoctrination of anti-flag thinking was embedded in my brain.
