I just saw an advertisement for the Borg on TV!! I was quite stunned. It showed a father working with his son on a project, it showed a mother doing something with her daughter and it showed some younguns paying money for drugs. The background narrative said something like "....if your children don't learn a good example from you, who WILL they learn from?" I was expecting it to say "church of Jesus christ of latter day saints".......instead it says "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and there was a 1-800 number! I saw it on Global at about 5:20pm tonight. Global is the Toronto station so I would assume that this has come from Georgetown.

I wonder if they realize that the door to door method of "advertising" isn't doing squat in North America any more and they've finally decided to join the 21st century. After all, there's no scriptural evidence that Jesus ever preached door to door, and even if there were, He simply would have been using the best methods they had back then. There were no TV's, internets or newspapers........

Has anyone else seen this ad?? I'll assume that they'll be doing it in the States too if they haven't already.

I didn't know the WTS had an 800 number, Mary. Do you remember the rest of the number?

No I don't........I ran to grab a pen and piece of paper but by that time it was off.........my first thought was that maybe it was an Ad from some "apostates", but that wouldn't make any sense because it showed the Witnesses all happy etc. Very much on the same lines as how the Mormons advertise for family values. Plus, if it were "apostates" or any other off shoot of the Borg, I don't think that legally they could say that the Ad was for the "christian congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses" if they weren't---that'd be false advertising. Plus, it would have cost probably anywhere from $50,000 - $100,000 to run the approx. 1 minute ad.........I don't know too many 'postates who got that kinda money to spend on an ad about the Witnesses that puts them in a good light........

If I see it again, I'll try to get the number.

If I ever saw that on TV, I would be tempted to take my TV outside and bust it up against a tree.

    Y'know....

About 20 years ago, I jokingly said to my mom that if I ever left the JWs, I'd become a Mormon.... "because they had better commercials".

Now the JWs have the cheezy commercials.... and I haven't seen one from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? in ages.

Love, Scully (oh, the irony class)

I re-watched some PSAs at the www.jw-media.org site and one listed 1-866-388-2222 at the end. Is that a toll-free number?

I think its wonderful how the Society is always taking advantage of the latest technology to spread the good news. From the Photo-Drama, to the portable turntables, to MEPS, and to television today. Man only finds bad uses for technology, but Jehovah can turn it around and make it useful. Especially when we see how things are getting so bad in the world, its evident that we are so very close to the end of this wicked old system of things. All the more reason to use every possible way to reach people while we still can.
