The WTS has had a history of this sort of thing, BUT? it reversed in probably the 50's. They sold/divested the old WBBR Radio Station. They had been using "network hookups" for Rutherford's lectures and such in earlier years.
Having been around electronics all my life, I had wondered about this and asked somebody in a position to know what had happened. Turns out, all those government swallowing earthquakes, denunciations and wild beasts in the old literature had gotten a really bad taste into the governments mouth about the WTS. This is really easily translated into the FCC inspector camping on your doorstep or very difficult court problems and auditing of your license and finances.
Now Dr. Gene Scott, AOG Televangelist, OWNS Radio Stations, TV Stations, Short-Wave Broadcast Stations and even SATELLITE TRANSPONDERS for the furtherance of his "word-wide ministry". He even uses the INTERNET ("tool of the Devil", WTS(tm))!!! He often complains about not having "proactive" engineers on his staff, from the pulpit!!!
Knowing someone at one-time involved in Dr. Scott's electronic operations, I am aware that the government has given him a hard time of it. He has fought the Fed in court over his electronic empire. It seems that this coincided, time-wise, with the Jimmy Swaggart (?) thing about "donations"; this is what brought the WTS "donation arrangement" into play. I am not sure why, but the gov seems to give the TV preachers a hard time in general.
If the WTS shifts into that direction, they are 50 YEARS behind the others!!!! "The others" saw the futility of the door-door thing half a century ago; but WTS had painted itself into a corner. The WTS saw no future and only litigation and legal problems in going forward with the electronic media.
It would be effective for them and could change their fortunes. But, if they change directions, look for some serious graft and other necessary evils for them to "play catch-up"!!!
