The WTS has had a history of this sort of thing, BUT? it reversed in probably the 50's. They sold/divested the old WBBR Radio Station. They had been using "network hookups" for Rutherford's lectures and such in earlier years.

Having been around electronics all my life, I had wondered about this and asked somebody in a position to know what had happened. Turns out, all those government swallowing earthquakes, denunciations and wild beasts in the old literature had gotten a really bad taste into the governments mouth about the WTS. This is really easily translated into the FCC inspector camping on your doorstep or very difficult court problems and auditing of your license and finances.

Now Dr. Gene Scott, AOG Televangelist, OWNS Radio Stations, TV Stations, Short-Wave Broadcast Stations and even SATELLITE TRANSPONDERS for the furtherance of his "word-wide ministry". He even uses the INTERNET ("tool of the Devil", WTS(tm))!!! He often complains about not having "proactive" engineers on his staff, from the pulpit!!!

Knowing someone at one-time involved in Dr. Scott's electronic operations, I am aware that the government has given him a hard time of it. He has fought the Fed in court over his electronic empire. It seems that this coincided, time-wise, with the Jimmy Swaggart (?) thing about "donations"; this is what brought the WTS "donation arrangement" into play. I am not sure why, but the gov seems to give the TV preachers a hard time in general.

If the WTS shifts into that direction, they are 50 YEARS behind the others!!!! "The others" saw the futility of the door-door thing half a century ago; but WTS had painted itself into a corner. The WTS saw no future and only litigation and legal problems in going forward with the electronic media.

It would be effective for them and could change their fortunes. But, if they change directions, look for some serious graft and other necessary evils for them to "play catch-up"!!!

Exactly. Every time something "new" comes out, they view it with suspicion and fear. Everything from vaccination to the internet has been denounced by them at one time or another as being "from Satan". They've clung to the prehistoric notion of sending people out banging on other people's doors thinking it's the best way to make converts. This is about the equivalent of the Amish way of thinking that a horse and plow is the most effective way of planting crops. While it is still effective in Third World countries, it's all but useless over here and perhaps they've finally seen the futility of it.

Dave said: If I ever saw that on TV, I would be tempted to take my TV outside and bust it up against a tree.

Or, you could just pull an Elvis and blast it with your 44 Magnum.

Whether they finally realize the futility of the door-to-door policy, the WT will never surrender it to other means of getting out their message. They need the ``make-work" to keep the dubbies on their theocratic treadmills and to justify their vast printing operation -- and reason for being (even if the dubbies give the literature away, they'll usually cover the cost by donating their own money.

I saw it on Global at about 5:20pm tonight. Global is the Toronto station so I would assume that this has come from Georgetown.

Holy shit, it's about time they hit Canada with their crappy commercials. I rarely watch TV, I don't have cable, but we can get Global with the bunny ears.

I too have seen a couple of ads by the WTBTS. It makes me feel at ease with my 'preaching conscience' because I don't go out on service that much anymore.

Overall, those are nice ads. Too bad they don't paint the true picture of this cult-like faith.

Does anybody know of any Web site where somebody has somehow taped this commercial and converted it into an MPEG file? Could anyone on this board do this if they have the equipment and the knowledge of exactly when it will next be on the air? It would be a great resource to have it somewhere in downloadable form. (It would certainly prove to rank-and-file dubs the existense of the commercial on TV!) I would imagine that it?s probably no loner than about 30 seconds, which wouldn?t be too large a file. Just a thought.

Hi Mary. I've seen them as well, but only on U.S. west coast superstations, and late night / early morning. Very surprised to hear they are on Global. BTW my reaction was exactly the same as yours.

IMO The Mormons do a much better job. I remember the one years ago, with a father watching his baby girl walking up a hallway, and her maturing into a young women in front of his eyes. That was at the time my now 14 year old daughter was born, and that one choked me up.

Of course I'm sure I would have felt differently if I was an ex-mormon
