As a child, I used to have many dreams of flying. I remember being just 10 or 15 feet in the air and it was exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. In one dream, my father was yelling at me and chasing me across the yard with his belt. I was trying to get away from a beating and it was the only way I knew how.

I still occasionally have dreams of flying, but not as often. I wish I could "hold" onto them better, realize what was going on and stay in the air. But usually now, when I "realize" I'm flying, I come crashing down, almost like tripping in the air. It's always scary and I wake up before I land.

In psychological terms OBEs are dissociative expereinces. They are often associated to some form of trauma or fears.

    and yup I've had them

Yes..... once. It lasted maybe 20-30 seconds. Long story short.... on second thought, nevermind... people will just argue that I was dreaming. Whatever.

Yes definately, many over the years starting during my childhood. I'm looking foward to having more!

I recomend the book 'Leaving the Body' by D. Scott Rogo for a non-spiritual how-to guide for OBE's I just started reading 'Out of Body Experiences - How to have them and what to expect' by Robert Peterson. I'm enjoying it and it also appears to be non-religious.

Like Billygoat, I had lots of dreams about flying when I was a child. Only problem was, I seemed to have problems dodging overhead electrical wires.

I have had "left the body experiences". That were like,, what is a body?? Where the thoughts were just thoughts and no body.

Durring this experience I have let horrifying thoughts come to consciousness, and examined them, and, felt them, and then they would just vanish it seems to be helpful emotionally, feeling wise anyway.

I once visualized 2 very hurtful, emotionally painful thoughts my mother's death and my sisters death as 2 rocket engines fireing off their fuel as these deep sorrows surfaced. While I do feel the better for it,, I don't think this one is a one time visualization,,it may take a few more.

I've had lots of these too! Sometimes I get tangeled sometimes the wires pass thru me. I'm not convinced these are just dreams though. Shwwooooshh>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

OOBE's can be induced, and it isn't a difficult technique to learn. I've been enjoying them for years now. Some other good books to look for include:

Out of Body Adventures, by Rick Stack

Journeys Out of the Body, by Robert A. Monroe

The Llewellyn Practical Guide to Astral Projection, by Denning and Phillips.
