There are observers that feel that the change on civilian service, the QfR on voting, and the change in the official view in disciplining the kids are in connection with the German lawsuit on recognition as a public body that began in 1990.
It is also to be re-issued in the Scandinavian languages and in a couple of others I know, because the NWT has been issued in those languages since the book was originally published, and so the quotes from the Scriptures are going to be changed from the various translations then used and to the NWT. Also, some ortographic and other minor changes are going to be done, so this is not a "German thing" in order to please the government there, but more of an updating to a number of languages.
