I ran over a rabbit when I was a mere slip of a lad at 19... It upset me so much I had to stop the car until I calmed down.

The following day I was visiting my in-(out)laws who had just come back of holiday and bought me a present..... a little muumy rabbit and 2 baby rabbit ornaments!!! God, did I feel bad :(

The worst one I ever saw was a cat ran over by a garbage van - completely flattened this poor critter into the road, but missed it's tail, which was still swishing and twitching! Eeeeuuugh!

When we lived in the mountains of WV, our road was very narrow and very curvy. As I came around a corner really slow, there were four quail sauntering across the road. I just couldn't stop in time and hit the last one in the line.

I cried the rest of the way home. My youngest daughter was in the driveway when I got there and could tell I was upset and red-eyed. I told her what happened. She was about 10 years old.

Last Fall she was up here to visit and she reminded me of that day-----and that she had recently hit a squirrel in FL where she lives, and cried like I did that day. She said she knew exactly how I felt, and I was surprised she even remembered the incident!

When a car hits a deer, it's usually pretty bad for the deer, but it can also be a terminal experience for the occupants of the car. A deer's long legs put its body mass above the hood of smaller cars, with the result that the deer goes right into - and thru - the windshield, where it proceeds to flail about with its hooves during its death throes. Not a good spot to be in. Of course the deer carcass can also break the neck or decapitate the driver under the right conditions.

A white tailed deer might weigh in at 140 to 240 pounds. But consider the moose - up to 1.500 pounds!

    There's always the resurrection, right?

My dad ran over a young boy and killed him, he darted out between two parked cars. This was about 70 years ago. He never talked about it much, but when we passed the spot where it happened he mentioned it. I never forgot where it happened after this. That would be hard to live with.

I've killed dogs, cats, squirles, rabbits, turkeys, all sorts of birds and my wife killed a deer. Better watch out when we come down the road.

I hit a skunk once. It was not a good thing. Funny, although not in the line of fire, I still smelled kinda funky. I bathed in tomato juice and smelled much better.

    Yep-

birds, racoons, possums, snakes... have missed all the deer so far.(in my state the deer hits are the biggest claim category)

Live in a rural area and drive 750,000 miles in 28 years your bound to get a "free meal" or two!

Well, if you had missed it and it had jumped in the hedge and then shouted "Road hog!" at you, you could have always retorted: "Hedgehog!".
