Good question, gypsy, well then, how about this. Would it be better if the decision wasn't in the hand of the governments, but instead left up to a majority vote?(ie the whole counties population) I say that because I feel we are to quick to go to war sometimes.

No. American history is a perfect example. We could have (SHOULD have) entered both WWI and WWII at an earlier time but we didnt because the American population was against the wars and didnt want to get involved. Lets not get into voting........ Also, lets not forgot that the Government knows many things that we the population do not. How can we make a vote if we are not informed? The Government obviously cannot be giving general broadcasts on its Foriegn Intelligence. A nice concept though. So now we get involved in everything because no one else will French- Kudos to France for sending some troops to Sudan Simon- our commanders still go to battle with us :) The President hasnt been in direct conflict since the Revolution and even then he was just a general :) They are politicians Simon! Not Military leaders. Besides, bush crashes his bike all the time- I wouldnt want him driving my tank The highest direct combat officer you will ever see if probably a 3 Star- but even then thats in World Wars when you have Gutsy leaders such as Rommel or Patton who lead from the front (and were repremanded for doing so...). I've often read of WWII veterans who said the war was the best, most exciting time of their lives, that nothing ever seemed as real or important afterwards. And one veteran told me that himself. So some people like war, maybe they were born to be soldiers. I can accept that, different strokes for different folks, after all. What I can't accept is the way it always involves women and children getting raped and killed, and men who don't like war being forced to fight. I just wish they could find a way to confine war to those who enjoy it.

If the US was hijacked by extremists who carried out human rights abuses then I think in theory, yes, the 'UN' should step in. In practice the US would probably make up the bulk of the UN force but who knows how things may be in future.

Far fetched? Maybe ... but it happend in Germany and other countries.

Oh man, we are in trouble now !! He's gonna make us drink beer all day and fall down and stuff. We'll no longer need traditional metal weapons- we will all be using our "pinchers". It's a sorry state of affairs indeed.

Murder, rape, and child abuse are outlawed, but sadly I have not seen a significant drop in them either.

In the long run war is great for the human family. It will take a few more and then eventually the human family will tire of it and see the futility of it all - until then we need war. It thins out the population and it tends to propagate the genes of the strongest (survival of the fittest) it is what happens in the animal kingdom anyway and strengthens the human family. There was an article recently that showed that the genes of Gengis Khan were in about 20 million people the other side of the world.

If there were no war people would have no freedom and Madmen like Hitler could do what they wanted. Not that i would mind speaking German - it is a great language anyway.

I think you are confusing war with disease. Modern wars especially do nothing to enhance the human genome. In fact, you could have some real sickly speciments 'winning' just by pushing buttons.
