Do you take supplements for things like arthritis, depression, energy, weight loss etc. etc?

I am trying to get some energy , as I get older I feel more and more drained. I have arthritis, have had that painful malady since I was a child. I know that in itself , added with pain can cause you to feel so drained. Some days I can't move off of the bed and when I do , I almost collapse when I exert myself.

If I can ever get the energy up to start walking a little at first I know this will help my pain and energy,,,,but I really need something to help me get out the door.

I am taking SAMe right now, just started , for the joint stiffness and pain,,,,,has anyone tried this?

I would be very much interested in any vitamins , herbs, minerals, that any of you have tried with success to make you feel better.........Thanks Dede

    Amen......Praaaaaaaaise da Lode......Halay-luuuuuuuuuuuuuuya sista!!!

Hey you.......I have the same problem. No energy, no zest, feel like a damn slug most of the time. I have arthritis too.....mostly in my back. It makes a little task seem like a big one. Being in pain takes away your energy as you say. I need to stay on vitamins which I constantly forget to take. I take Cod Liver Oil pills....about 3 a day as it is supposed to help joint pain and a host of other things such as prevent strokes and heart ailments.

Boredom and depression can do all the things mentioned......but are many times the result of pain. It's a vicious circle. I wonder if someone would hand us a million bucks.......would we feel a little better?

    DeDe,

i take ALTOVIS. It has been advertised on TV to fight fatigue gently. I have CFS and FMS and it does help. Go to altovis.com or call 800-altovis.

CoQ10 is also helping , along with the B vits. (for energy) Niacin is supposed to be helpful for depression, i am planning to try it.

Magnesium is great for anxiety. I know several people who are taking the Omega 3 fish oils for mood disorders.

Poor Gumby, you described it well . I also go out and buy things and forget to take them, even when I know they will help me, how retarded is that??? Sorry you hurt, when your back , or your feet hurt it is hard to move around, and that just makes it worse. I have noticed in the last year that my hands are hurting more and more and that pisses me off.....lol. I painted yesterday and it was a large room,,,,,I am having trouble even opening bottles. ( Thank goodness the bartender opens my beer for me huh.....)

Wednesday, I have FMS, too and , well if I was a horse they would shot me for sure!!! I have a list so long of things that are wrong with me that I am embarrassed to list them all, I think I even sound like a basketcase .

I am going to look in my cabinet today and see what I have , put the darn bottles out for me to see all day and take the darn things. I know vitamin B helps, I just have to find where I put that bottle.......geeshh I am always looking for something.

Interesting about the fish oil........ I will buy some of this , as I dont have that I am pretty sure.

    Olde World Icelandic
    Cod Liver Oil

From the pure cold waters of Iceland

ORIGINS OF COD LIVER OIL Far north in the icy Atlantic, lives a truly remarkable culture of people who have withstood the challenges of harsh weather and long seasons of darkness. This is the island nation of Iceland.

Cod liver oil has always been an important part of the diet of the Icelandic people. They instinctively recognized the importance of vitamin A, vitamin D and the essential omega-3 fatty acids found in cod liver oil.

Cod liver oil was used as a panacea for everything that effected their health and daily activities.

Today, Icelanders live longer than any other people on earth. They have less heart disease and high blood pressure than any other culture in the world. They also have the lowest infant mortality rate. Icelandic women give birth to healthy babies with well developed immune systems, nervous systems and optimal brain and eye functions.

Regular use of cod liver oil has supported the overall health of the Icelandic people for thousands of years. Now, this same product is available to support your overall health.

Olde World Icelandic Cod Liver Oil is the most natural and carefully tested cod liver oil available. The oil comes from the pure cold waters of Iceland and is cold processed using traditional methods that ensure all of the naturally occurring vitamins and Omega-3 essential fatty acids remain intact.

Olde World Icelandic Cod Liver Oil is the best source for natural levels of vitamins A and D. It also is a rich source of DHA, EPA and other essential Omega-3 fatty acids.

Other cod liver oils remove the naturally occurring vitamin A and D during the deodorization process and then supplement the finished product with a synthetic form of these vitamins. Garden of Life?s Old World Icelandic Cod Liver Oil is undeodorized, unbleached and contains only the naturally occurring vitamins A and D.

Old World Icelandic Cod Liver Oil is made with a pleasant tasting all natural lemon-mint flavor to eliminate the fishy aftertaste reminiscent of your grandma?s cod liver oil.

Our product has been nitrogen flushed to ensure freshness and prevent oxidation. BENEFITS OF COD LIVER OIL
    HEALTHY CARDIOVASCULAR FUNCTION

Cod liver oil can play an important role in helping to improve the condition of the heart and cardiovascular system.

The elongated omega-3 fatty acids in cod liver oil positively affect the linings of the arteries. The Vitamins A and D found in cod liver oil help to improve muscle function and support the elasticity of blood vessels.

Additionally, cod liver oil acts as a natural blood thinner that can keep platelets from sticking together and reduce the likelihood of clogged arteries. It has also been shown to reduce high cholesterol levels.

Cod liver oil is highly recommended for those that are at risk for heart disease. RELIEF FROM CHRONIC JOINT PAIN

The potential benefit of cod liver oil to those suffering from chronic joint pain cannot be overstated. Extensive joint research found that the elongated omega-3 fatty acids in cod liver oil reduce pain and damage to inflamed joints and joint cartilage. Cod liver oil is highly recommended for those people who experience adverse side effects when taking non-steroidal and anti-inflammatory drugs.

    RELIEVES SKIN DISORDERS

The regular consumption of omega-3 fatty acids may be beneficial to those suffering from inflammatory skin disorders. Sufferers generally register low levels of omega-3 fatty acids and have altered essential fatty acid metabolisms. Therefore, the regular consumption of cod liver oil may help alleviate the inflammation and overall severity of these conditions.

DeDe, my doc says that abuse survivors frequently have multiple health problems as we do. I'm guessing stess plays a big part in it.

Other than the stand by VITA LEA from Shaklee,(which is their multi vita), B-complex, fish oil (capsules), I have discovered 5-HTP - Somedays I think it is quite helpful (for sleep irregularity, depression, anxiety), other days, I wonder why I have given up alcohol to take it! Kinda pricey too........$50.00 for a months supply

    Hi Lyin Eyes,

My sympathies for the arthritis--me too! I've started taking glucosamine-chrondritin for it and it's very alleviated. It works for some and not for others. The neurosurgeon I had to see to diagnosis it (long story) recommended I try it.

I also take alpha lipoic acid and L-Carnitine 500. An article in Reader's Digest featured it. The first one has been used in Europe for energy and the L-Carnitine has been added in studies with rats, greatly increasing their energy. And helps you live a lot longer, of course. They're both available from the health food stores.

    Good luck!

    Pat
