haHA! I have Diablo and Diablo II and Warcraft I - III. I also played Doom I and Doom II back in the day. Trust me I was told the same thing. I just hid the games and the demons turned out to be my parents and they went away :)

The new Doom looks so pimp. It's already out on PC? Wow. It's funny because the only reason I'm actually so into that game is for one, has the best graphics in history, and two that demons has been such a big part of my life and so mysterious and stuff that I actually want to play it more than if demons weren't even in my vocabulary. Thanks.

This will probably *really* date me, but I was in about 10th grade when the first paper version book of Dungeons and Dragons came out. Myself and two other Witness kids would play it in the cafeteria. After awhile, the novelty wore off and we got bored with it. Some, however, would play it non-stop and even grades slipping caused no intermission. Later, I had heard that it was "banned" (conscience matter) by the Society.
I did, however, come to know a full grown man (33) about 13 years ago that "lived" the game. He was addicted to the game and spent most weekends playing it with his friends. He was an assasin. He also played very violent video games when he got home from work. He was a bouncer in a strip club a couple nights of the week, and a computer operator at the local community college during the day as his full time job. In social interactions, he was a gentle giant. A sweet, somewhat reserved, jolly man.
Imagine my surprise when my then-boyfriend, a cop, told me that he'd been arrested for murder. He had a girlfriend from the club, I'd met her, and he seemed quite happy with her. He apparently found out that she was really married and was merely using him for what money she could get out of him. He rented a hotel room, invited her over there, raped her and shot her sixteen times. He then calmly walked out of the room, and ran into the resident security officer (an off-duty patrolman). The officer asked him if he'd heard gunshots, and my friend said "Yes, I just murdered my girlfriend. I'll show you which room she's in."
Needless to say, another amazing coincidence was that the death penalty attorney that I worked for on the weekends was his appointed attorney for his death penalty case. I could't work on the case because it would have been a conflict. But this attorney told me this guy had no remorse for what he had done, that he'd trained to do it all these years, and that he merely wanted to plead guilty, go to jail, and play dungeons and dragons the rest of his life. He plead guilty and was sentenced to 58 years, which was fine by him.
When the police entered his apartment during a search they found terribly violent tomes he had written about rape, torture and murder of women; satanic paraphernalia; and various costumes that represented his character as an assasin in the dungeons and dragons game he played every weekend night. Wild...
So yes, I think those things, for people that are already a little off balance, can drive them deeper into a fantasy world that becomes mixed with reality in ways that are dangerous.

My parents insisted I burn all my stuff in front of their eyes LOL.
The funny thing was, there were plenty of other RPG's that were doing the rounds, that they never got to hear about. -

Aside from the video game aspect of this thread, I noticed how your friends were all into something they knew was wrong. Then, they felt guilty and now it's unacceptable. First the video game and before long, it'll be the porn.
Same things happend to my brother and I. When I was 16 or 17, we transferred to a new hall that had more teenagers than any hall I'd ever seen. Did that mean more friendships? No. We were the new people and outside the clique until they found out we weren't opposed to drinking and would happily do it with them. Suddenly, we had a busy social life for a couple of years, doing things with other kids, getting invited to things, sisters wanting to date us, etc. Everbody would get together, sometimes we'd get drunk (all of us), and we were having fun. Then somebody got a conscience and felt guilty and went to confess. Suddenly, everyone was deciding to be all religious. My brother and I were like, OK, we'll stop partying (...with you). We always had worldly friends that we could go party with. But every time one of them wanted to be a little bad and find somebody to drink with, who did they come to? We welcomed them. But then they'd feel guilty and treat us like crap. And this cycle repeated. Come to us as friends when they wanted to drink, feel guity and be all judgmental and avoid us.
If you toss out Doom 3 (or at least make them think you did), they'll be back next time some other demonic or violent game comes out. Only to feel guilty about that and demand you get rid of that.
Somebody else gave some good advice. Find some new bandmates and some new friends. Friends that are more in sync with your tastes or at least don't have a problem with your choices. As long as your actions don't harm yourself or others, I don't see why your friends should be placing conditions on their friendship with you.
As for the demon thing... Has anybody actually seen a demon? Not just heard some strange sound? How do they even know that the doom demons are anything like the demons they believe in? Same for Harry Potter and a lot of the Witchcraft things. So much of what we take for granted as part of "witchcraft" has been made up recently, mostly by Hollywood. So, in effect, it's as much a made up story as some new starship engine on Star Trek. If they convinced themselves that these creatures were "aliens" instead of demons, I'll bet they'd have no issue with the game. So, same game, same violence, marketed a little differently would be OK. It just shows it's all perception, not anything to do with actual dangers.
