I posted it another time, but it was during a Sunday talk and the elder used the word "crap" and immediately was so embarassed and went on into a full explanation of apology for having said it.

No not from the platform but we did have this guy who was nonbaptized publisher(they have the most fun) who swear in his answers. On Sundays, no matter what the subject was, he would ramble on and give like a 3 minute answer full of explitives and them some how tie it back into WWII. Strange fellow.

Most of my JW childhood is blocked out, except for a few memories. I thought it was normal for people to not remember their childhood, but I guess that it's not. I do remember my Mother, occasionally, yelling "You better get in there and clean up that cat shit!" and being so *shocked and horrified* that my Mother would cuss. Now I realize that she was a very clean person and *was* shocked and horrified to find cat shit on her floor! However, now, I think that word is not really cussing.. it's just an expression. My birds use it freely. It's my favorite word. In fact, when I drop a glass in the kitchen, all the birds, in unison, scream OH SHIT!
My JW brother also cusses, which I find somewhat disturbing to this day.. but really, it's not like he is damning God or anything. He just says things like "Oh hell." or something like that.

There were some elders who used weird expression--some of which just sounded weird when they tried to fit them into a JW talk. One elder used this one expression quite a bit "you have to strike while the poker is hot" Somehow when he said it it sounded a little off to me and I don't really have a dirty mind--it was just the way he used to say it.

My dad, an elder and MS, on JC, etc., had an odd habit, and once it came up while he was on stage giving the sunday talk.... he unconsciously dug his keys out of his pocket and started digging in his ear with one!
No one laughed, but my mom and I were almost rolling on the floor!
My dad did, however, have an extensive vocabulary learned from his time in the Merchant Marines in WWII and as a lumber mill operator and an electrician. All learned before becoming a JW. He one time cussed out another elder, on the phone, whom he thought to be a complete horse's arse. He didn't hold back when he thought it appropriate.

For a very long time much of the details of my childhood were blocked, too. Bits and pieces have come back. Most of it boring....

believe it or not, i finished my comment by saying that we should do some research on our chicken before buying, maybe even writing letters to the companies asking if they choke their chickens. (my exact words)
OK, I laughed out loud on that one!!

I remember swearing while chatting in the kingdom hall once. I realised straight away what I'd done, except my response to knowing I'd done something real bad by letting it slip out was go 'oh shit', which just made it worse...... I got away with it because I was talking with friends and they all knew what to expect from me by then.

It was worth being a JW just for that tale to tell. That alone was worth all of the subsequent stress
