Our house is the "money pit." It is a log cabin, built by a crazy German with a wife in Victorian mode. She loved wallpaper. I love wallpaper as long as it's understated, slightly textured, and in a color that is subdued. All of the wallpapers in the house were bright blues with hundreds and millions of tiny white flowers, green with pink flowers, etc. Over the last five years I have ripped out the wallpapers (ugh) and have re-done the drywall with a stucco texture and painted it in very neutral colors. My hallway will be my masterpiece when it is finished. I am doing a checkerboard design with texture done by a whisk broom. When I am done I will paint it wheat yellow and put some vintage brass lamps with tiffany shades.
My mess-up is my Bamboo room. I bought some of that paint that was on sale that somebody had already mixed up and returned. It was $5.00. I was redoing the room in a Japanese/French design (if you can imagine that): fleur di lis, gold, purple, bamboo motif. The paint went on and it's a hideous baby poo color. Doesn't go well with the ochre colored sheets. Ugh... As soon as I can repaint it, I will.
