Through clear reasoning with a Jehovah's Witness, has anyone found it possible to show a JW that they are completly brainwashed members of a cult? What are the best strategy's or methods of converting a JW back into a clear thinking individual? Any anecdote or insight is welcome.

I hear a sudden shock can work. Let the beloved society betray the poor person bad enough...

I thought of another one. Since believing in the society is primarily an emotional reaction rather than a logical one, logic alone cannot be used to reason someone out of the society. You must first help them overcome their fear of thinking for themselves. This takes time.

Sad to say, dubs (witnesses) usually are quite happy in they're little bubble world. They really don't want to be 'converted' back to normal. Some people are blissfully ignorant. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

    Enough of the cliche's.

How would you like to know that everything that you ever believed in was a complete lie? Every hope, dream, shattered overnight. It's not a nice thing to have happen (as I can attest), and you really have to want to know truth before you can accept it. You are not only telling them that they're belief is completely and utterly false, but they must now go into society and try to be 'normal'. Be normal and try to become friendly with people who are considered walking corpses. They cannot maintain they're current friendships, because they are 100 percent conditional on they're being involved in the religious group!

When you ask to convert dubs to sanity, you are asking a whole lot more than just turning they're backs on a despicable 'organization'. You are asking them to turn theyr'e backs on they're whole lives.

Welcome, Mr. Jones, from another Newbie.

That's a question that everyone wants an answer to. If only it was that simple.

As for myself, haven't got a clue, but you will get some ideas from other people in this forum, I'm sure. Lots of good advice here, from good people.

One thing for sure, keep the love going between you and the j.w.

    Good luck.... Hubert.

In all reality most JWs know they are being lied to after they have been around, but they feel it is their right to lie because they know what is best. They have a "You can't handle the truth" complexe. I have heard many jws say "Yes that may not be true, but some members could not take a sudden change and may leave the truth. When the slave thinks more can handle it they will correct that." For all we know that could be true. THey could be figureing how to get rid of the paradise earth or 1914 or the entire slave class. Just waiting for the right moment when enought people have lost faith.

So pointing out something is not true and having them agree does not amount to much.

My point brought down to one simple sentence.

You are asking too much for them to bear. They will simply pretend to not hear it, or have 'faith' that some 'new light' will occur. Look at the U.N. scandal. Most dubs don't give two shats about it.

    okay take a pole.

the watchtower played the same role someone converting a JW would in 1995 when it got rid of the generation of 1914 and reverted to christiandoms veiw. Sure some left, but how many?

If the watchtower can tell the JWs hey you guys are wrong you have been believing the wrong thing all these years, spell it out in a lengthy watchtower, and it not register how good can the average joe do? 1995 by most logic should have had a 1925 ish mass exodus. But it did not. JWs are not conditioned not to believe their own doctrine. Just wait it out.
