    Hi RR,

he requested that after his death that his name appear nowhere attached to his writings were they to be reprinted

So this edition I have was anonymously published as per CTR request, but did they continue to omit Russell's name on all the editions published after Russell died?

Probably not VM, since it was published as you stated in 1905, Russell died in 1916. Looking through the various editions I have, I just picked the first New Creation book I saw and it is dated 1915, 372,000 edition and it doesn't have Russell's name in it either in the preface. I also looked at a 1912, 194 and 1916 edition, no name. I took volume 5 and the same. So, I wouldn'y say it was a conspiracy :)

I checked all my Studies in the Scriptures. The only mention is a reprint from 1925 which says "written in 1904 by Pastor Russell" under the copyright whereas the Vindication Book volumes 2 and 3 have "Comments by J.F. Rutherford" on the title page.under which it reads "Author of Creation, Deliverance, ...."

It seems JFR was the one with the ego.

In the early years the reason why Russell's name was included in the preface is most likely because he was the copyright holder. The arly editions had "Published by Watch Tower" by the copyrights were by Russell. He eventually gave the coprights to the Society shortly before his death, not sure when. Since then th Society was the publisher and copyright holder and Russell's name was gone from the foreword. Interesting, as I never noticed before. However after Russell's death, from 1917 to 1927 (the last edition by the Society) Russell's name appears in the foreword with the date Octiober 1, 1916.

The next edition published by the DAWN and the Laymen's Home Missionary Movement in the 1930s contionued the tradition of the Society after his death and kept his name in the forewords.

If you want to credit Mrs. Russell with something big; credit her with authoring the understanding of the "faithful and wise servant" and applying it to her husband.

Now that is a far-reaching inventions!
