When I was a little dubbie we used the expression "The Friends" to describe fellow dubbies. We would say things like "She's one of the friends," or ask questions like "is he one of the friends?"
Is this terms still used in that fashion in dubland?

I've noticed that certain areas of Witnesses say that. It IRRITATES me! I never felt like a Quaker.

When I attended a JW funeral in 2000, I was approached by the elder I used to study with. This is word for word what he said:
"This is where all your friends are. If you're not here, you have no friends"
That statement really pissed me of. Sadly, my elder friend, the same one who led me through the "You Can Live Forever In Paradise On Erf" book is now dead from old age. Guess he didn't see that one coming!

As a dub.. I thought it was quaint. Now I identify is as some weird cult jargon. "The Friends".. "The Society"..

I actually like the term. I grew up in a small predominately Quaker town in New Jersey.
I now use the term to refer to my daughter's second grade classmates. As in "Are many of the friends going to the birthday party on Saturday?"

From what I hear they still use it, but I think to myself-With FRIENDS like that, who needs enemies???!!!

My JW girlfriend uses that "friends" term ad nauseum. I, too, feel like I'm reading a Stephen King book or some other cult-ish writing. It's creepy to hear constant references to "the friends" and it really weirds me out to hear her refer to them like that. It's definitely cultish. Robert

a pioneer sis told me in the 80's that is was a suspicous term, sort of an apostate term, on par with saying "christian JWS", maybe it was a local thing, but this was a very bright "in the know" sis

She's right! "A Jehovah's Witness 'friend'" is an oxymoron!
