The good samaritan and apostacy.

Wow, Avi, such a very good point. If my sister ever speaks to me again I will certainly bring this example up.

I'll add that Jesus didn't get up and run when he saw the Samaritan woman at the well, he sat and lovingly chatted with her. He asked her questions and he patiently listened while she answered. Jesus didn't follow the example of the Jews in their disdain for the Samaritans. He set a new example.

    I posted this awhile back

It doesn't directly have anything to do with apostasy, but the contrast between JW's vs. Good Samaritan was disturbing at the time --and still is.

It reminds me of the unknown exorcist in Luke 9:49. Jesus didn't mind him casting out demons in his name, but he wasn't a disciple...Just a thought.

Great story TD!!! I'm going to do a no-no and cross post from that thread because it is so good.

I don't know a single Witness that would react unkindly once it was apparent the man on the street needed medical help.

I've seen it in action. I'd say the reverse is true. I know very few that would check to see if the man had a problem or not, hence it would'nt even become apparent that he "needed help" even though it was obvious in the first place.

While the stories do say Jesus spoke to Samaritans, he did so to convert them, and while the good Samaritan acted lovingly to the Jew, the object was to berate the Jewish arrogance against foreigners, not elevate the Samaritan. Not surprising since both stories were written by a post 90 CE Christians writing to a largely gentile audience. Yet even in these stories the Jesus character never demonstarted tolerance for the religion of the Samaritans. In the stories those he spoke to were not Jews that had gone over to the Samaritan camp they were foreigners who needed to learn to leave the lies and false worship and "worship with Spirit and truth". It would do no good to use this logic with JWs who shun and berate those that leave the organization.

PP. I don't think that my logic is necessarily flawed, it, like many things biblical, is up to interpretation.

DuH! In a talk from a recent assembly, they said "If an angel appeared and disagreed eith the FDS, don't believe him!!!" That's how warpe they are.
