WT blames failed prophecy on followers

I have posted this under ?Scandals? because I think it demonstrates the slick cover up over failed JW teachings.

Read closely to see the WT actually blames the R&F for failed prophecies:

The example of Jonah is used to show how even though Jonah prophesied destruction for Nineveh, Jehovah changed his judgment for that city and spared it. Later in the article it states:

Still, Jehovah has held back the promised destruction so that sincere people today, like repentant ones in Nineveh, can repent and be spared. The apostle Peter refers to God?s patience in these terms: ?Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with you because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance.?

    Another quote:

Accurate knowledge of God?s purpose and a humble appraisal of our own relative unimportance will enable us to be patient just as long as Jehovah sees fit to be patient with this old system.

    Now read between the lines:

    • God actual postponed his judgment of Nineveh (eventually finally destroyed in 632 BC according to WT article). Is this being applied to ?this old system??
    • God is patient so that some will be saved. Does this mean that as long new babies are born there is an opportunity to save more?
    • ?Of course, Jonah did not go as far resigning as a prophet.? Is this statement pointed at the followers of the leaders of JWs?
    • ?Accurate knowledge? and ?new light? are always at odds in JW doctrine. How can anyone look at the track record of JWs and ?use accurate knowledge?to be patient just as long as Jehovah sees fit??

So the game plan is: Blame the flock for slowing down. Forget 1975, 2000, "the generation that saw 1914". Jehovah is smarter than you (and the FDS is too).

As much as they push going door-to-door, and as much as they flap on about all the languages their lit. is printed in. wouldn't you think that JW's have canvassed pretty much every neighborhood in every country and there is no one left to preach to? I remember the elders in my cong. talking about "shaking the dust off our feet" at those houses that refused to give in to the JW's. Are they now trying even to preach to the "do no calls"?

This is exactly the same reason in 2 Peter 3, which rationalizes how all the apostles could've died without Jesus returning. Because God is patient, not slow, and just wants as many ppl to be saved as possible.

    It's the same old trick.

To clarify this, 2000 was the deadline for the "twentieth century". Read it and weep at watchtower.observer.org: http://watchtower.observer.org/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040312/DOCTRINE3/10518045

Here's the idiocy on do not calls:

Elders are often instructed to call on these people at least once a year to confirm that they remain "do not calls".

given that some congregations may not completely cover their territory in a year, "do not call" may turn into a deliberate,

" make sure you call on this person to ascertain if they still don't want Witnesses at their door"!

XQ, In the january 1 1989 of the watchtower (page 12 end of par 8) it read: The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century. So watchtower was most certainly up to its old tricks of setting dates. By the way this quote is from the individual copy of the watchtower. By the time the bound volume cam out they removed "in our 20th century" and substituted "in our day" wannaexit

DOnt they give a disclaimer that the content is altered from original form. Also they are a publishing company. Publishing companies do revisions. Look at Mary Shelly's Frankenstien. The original was published then revised because the publisher thought some references to Dr being like God would alienate potential readers. Science books are revised all the time. They revise math books, and math does not change. So how is this "extra sneeky" they are a publisher it is what publishers do if they own the rights.

XQ: I will have to EXcept your apologies. First: I am under the impression that Jehovah edits the WT (quoting Franz), do you think He got it wrong the first time? Second, "revising" out a date and replacing "in our day" is not a minor change. This is part of the pattern that seeks to hide embarrasing written statements (like the entire first 75 years of the WBTS publications).

I find it interesting you first claim not to know of "any Y2K humbug", yet when the statements are exposed you then apologize for the revisionist practices of WTBTS. Hmmm...

To get this thread back on track: I would like to point out that the FDS depends on exactly this kind of acceptance from the R&F to continue their face-saving deceptions. Only then can they have the currency to then blame their lost sheep for getting disappointed.
