    RunningMan:

In your version of Numbers 24:21f "Kenites" translates two different yet related Hebrew words:

    1) haqqé(y)ni, which is the gentilice or ethnic name meaning "the Qenites".

    2) qayin, which is the personal name of the eponym ancestor (identical to "Caïn" in Genesis 4), here meaning the nation collectively.

Most translations obscure the connection between "Caïn" and the Qenites, which is obvious in Hebrew (exactly as in "Israelites" and "Israel"; one could consistently transliterate "Caïnites" as well).

Another interesting detail: the name Gihôn given to the second river is also the name of the royal sacred fountain in Jerusalem (1 Kings 1:33f; cf. Psalm 46:5).

Thanks, Nark. I now have another entry in my index of Bible errors.

See Genesis 15:19; Judges 1:16, 4:11; 1 Samuel 14:6; Jeremiah 35:1-19 for other references to the Kenites and their tribes. Their nomadism and lack of agriculture is related in Genesis 3:12-16, their specialty in metal-working is mentioned in 4:22, as well as their focus on music (4:21).

    Leolaia,

The simple answer is that the Flood myth was a late addition to the source documents underlying the primeval history of Genesis.

Is there any other documentation out there that shows that when and where the Flood myth was added to Genesis?
