Hi Guys, I am a religion student doing a research project on the doctrines of jehovahs witnesses and so far I have not been able to get any information from anyone, and I dont want to go to the anti-JW web sites to get it so if there is anyone who can help I would very much appreciate your help to get a well balanced view on the JW's the questions are as follows:

    1. what is the JW view on the state of the dead
    2. how do you view hell
    3. how is baptism seen and what role does it fulfil
    4. how does one repent and to whom do they confess
    5. how does one receive forgiveness and from whom
    6. is salvation by grace or good works - is it received by faith
    7. how does one become a Christian
    8. how do JW's view the gospel
    9. how is one saved
    10. do the JW's believe once saved always saved - if not what is your understanding
    11. can you be saved and not be a JW
    12. is salvation through the free gift of grace of god which can never be earned
    13. how do you know that you are saved, how do you know you have assurance in your salvation
    14. what did Jesus achieve during his ministry on this world
    15. what did Jesus achieve at the cross
    16. who is Jesus if he is not god and part of the trinity
    17. do you practice the lords supper and and foot washing in memorial to what Jesus did - if not why not
    18. what are the key salvational doctrines of the JW's
    19. if Jesus is not god and he died for our sins - how can our sins be forgiven if he is only an angel a created being
    20. do you believe in satan and how is sin and temptation conquered
I know there are a lot of questions, hope you can answer some of them, and thank you very much for helping me in this you have been very kind and decent people, thanks again. kind regards Simon

Oh what the hell, I'm bored. Answered like a JW might:

-what is the JW view on the state of the dead

JWs believe the dead are concious of nothing at all.

    - how do you view hell

As the common grave, not a place of firey torment

-how does one repent and to whom do they confess

You repent to God in prayer, but confess to congregation Elders

-how does one receive forgiveness and from whom

Hmm.. it depends on the seriousness of the sin I suppose. For minor sins, I suppose that praying for forgiveness is enough.

how do JW's view the gospel

As God's inspired word; mostly seen as literal

-do the JW's believe once saved always saved - if not what is your understanding

No, not once saved, always saved.

-can you be saved and not be a JW

    What's your definition of "saved"?

-how do you know that you are saved, how do you know you have assurance in your salvation

    You don't know

what did Jesus achieve at the cross

He was a ransom sacrifice for our sins.. essentially wiped the slate

-who is Jesus if he is not god and part of the trinity

    God's son, his first creation

-do you practice the lords supper and and foot washing in memorial to what Jesus did - if not why not

The unleavened bread and wine is consumed by a select few. Feet are not washed.

-what are the key salvational doctrines of the JW's

Hmm.. The Governing Body in New York is God's mediator to us.. You must preach to others going door-to-door

-if Jesus is not god and he died for our sins - how can our sins be forgiven if he is only an angel a created being

Perfect humans sinned (Adam & Eve). So an equal needs to die for our sins, a perfect human. Jesus took on a perfect human form, and was crucified.

-do you believe in satan and how is sin and temptation conquered

Yes JWs believe in Satan.. as for how sin is conquered.. don't know
