I was once told by a Mormon "Elder" (or is that a "Youngster"? - they never seem to be more than 18 ) that Mormons who work in certain professions, such as the building trade, where wearing shorts (we call them "Stubbies" here) is the norm, can get special dispensation from the Church to not have to wear the "sacred undies" (that would stick out from under your work clothes and look rather silly! )
