I am right here! Was not looking at internet over the weekend.....
I "DO" want the magazines. I read "some" of the articles, & I look at the pictures & use them. I teach a College course on religious artwork.... Watchtower has some good examples, sometimes.(It's a source of info.)
I am used to "the Witnesses" placing magazines with "everyone" & solicting for Bible studies. I am from N.Y., my ggrandmother was a Witness for 50 years. I am not used to this "selectively" giving out the magazines, as they seem to do in this area...... real strange people!!!
"I hope she really did not have another copy"
I would LOVE to see these people's field service report!!!! What do they put down if they are not even giving people the magazines????

In fairness, the organization's record on racism is pretty good BUT....
I've commented several times about the Society's lack of discipline in regard to elders and congregations, in recent years.
If you get around, there a lot of wild situations in local congregations that the Society does nothing about - the child molesting
scandal has exposed some of this rampant corruption. So, isolated examples of racism are possible, given that so much else
is going on.

Dolllie,
You mentioned that you're about an hour outside of New York, so that would put you around Stamford (?). I'm in Connecticut, too, so I'm just curious about where this sort of thing might happen.
Thanks,
Margie

There is no doubt that some JWs are racist, however most would never show this during the ministry.
My wife's son (non-jw) recently rented an apartment from a JW. After he had us over and I realized where he was living, I said to him. "hey, your land lord is a JW." My step son, said, "oh really, I would have never guessed it." I inquired why, he said "when they were talking about renting the apartment, the JW told him that he didn't ever have to worry about him renting to nigers, that he never would."
So when he was talking to a non-jw, not knowing what he said, would get back to someone else, well, needless to say, there are some JW racists out there.
That being said, I find it odd that any would be so blatant while in the ministry.

In Bethel, I can recall a certain older brother, with a significant position, warning me not to marry a Hispanic
because " your kids could turn out black".
In later years, the Society had a few problems with racism in the other direction. They had a Circuit Overseer named
P. Green who tried to remove white brothers wholesale so that "our people" could run congregations.

There is racism and prejudice in the organization. Not officially or even sanctioned. Those that practice it are going against the modern position as taken by the WTS.
Problem is that years ago before the feds forced intergration, the WTS did nothing to segregate until forced to. There were some things said and printed that could be construed as racism today. Those that were around before integration may still have some old feelings. Younger ones, though raised to not be prejudiced, find themselves harboring those same feelings because of upbringing or various other circumstances.
Though there will be some individual racism or prejudice, the JWs as a whole seem to do a better job at integrating than most other religions. Is this because they have God's favor? No, it's because the WTS has realized that the color of money is more important than the skin of the person donating it.

If you're black, they just color in the square ;)
(note: "B" on the service record stands for "Busy")

Most JWs I knew were not racist. I am white and many of my friends are black. I found them to be more down to Earth. My daughter dates only black males, my white nephew married a black sister.
Assigning value on a person because of the color of their skin is equal to assigning value based on the color of their eyes or hair.
I made a friend at work who is black. She always uses the "N" word when referring to people of her own race. It really bothered me. I asked her how she would feel if I said it and she told me that I could not. I said, "why, because I am white?" Then she told me to shutup. She admitted that she was a racist against whites because her father raised her that way. We became friends but never close friends.
A black male that I worked with use to give me a hard time. On day he called me "Little Orphan Annie" so I called him "Sambo". When a another black co-worker heard of this, holy hell broke loose. She finally backed down when she realized that I was about as racist as the common cold.
Wow...talk about a double standard.

Sounds strange, Dollie. We have a large population of blacks in this area and they are more likely to take the magazines than the whites. The JWs love that area because they can "place" lots of magazines.
I have known white JWs that will not go into all black territories because they fear crime (which is ridiculous), but they are few and far between. JWs will place magazines with a laundromat. CT (Connecticut???) I've called on blacks there and was never told by the JWs with me not to give them the mags.
Hmmmm
