Heather's post reminded me of this: our closest next door neighbors are JWs and their 4 year old boy likes to come to the fence between our yards to talk to my 3 year old girl. One day earlier this summer he asked if I "know Jehovah" then informed me in a hushed voice (looking over his shoulder several times) that his dad told him he's not supposed to talk to us because we are traitors and don't love Jehovah. He still does talk to us, as often as we are out there, but is kind of sneaky about it. It's just too weird. I think he is going to grow up with a strange idea of what traitors are because he quite likes us and obviously sees no reason why he shouldn't talk to us.

Merry - that must suck to have them next door!

I live in what my husband and I lovingly call "mormon central" - we're close to a mormon temple and lots of mormon churches in our area. The majority of our neighbors are mormon and the missionaries do some type of training here. I always wave at them and visit with them - but inside I feel really sorry for them because they are mislead just like the JW's - trapped.

Thank God I'm not living in "JW" central - I doubt the neighbors would be as friendly!

She mearly kills and eats him. "God" slaughers the whole planet and according to the JWs he just can't wait to do it again.

This is what is known as "God's Love for Mankind(tm)."

I believe Tom Cabeen wrote a dissertation on the shunning policy of the WTS and how unscriptural it was. It was a good read but its been some time since I read it.

The Bible commands Christians: "Quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man."?1 Corinthians 5:11.

This scripture never fails to anger me, because it is in direct contrast to what Jesus taught. Jesus never insinuated that we should ignore anyone just because we may not believe the same things........in fact, he gave the Pharisees shit for practicing this very thing and he went out of his way to associate with people who all these so-called "worshippers of the true God Jehovah" completely ignored. The most powerful illustration he gave regarding the practice of shunning (IMO) is the story of the Good Samaritan which we all know: a Jew gets the holy hell beaten out of him and his own people (who supposedly had "the Truth) completely ignore him and leave him to die on the side of the road while a Samaritan (who by all accounts hated Jews) saves his life..............if you replace the words "a certain Jew" with "a certain apostate", the word "Pharisee" with the word "elder" and the word "Samaritan" with either "Catholic", "Protestant", "Jew" or "Muslim" and you'll see history repeating itself.

The apostle Paul apparently didn't give a damn what Jesus taught----he had his own agenda and he wanted to control the congregation at all costs.
