Is it just me or does it sound like she pushed him?

Man falls 500 feet in Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Arizona (AP) -- A man was found dead after falling from a trail in Grand Canyon National Park and landing about 500 feet below, a park spokeswoman said Monday.

Efforts to recover the man's body using a helicopter were hampered by high wind Monday and park spokeswoman Leah McGinnis said an attempt would be made Tuesday.

It was an unclear why the man fell while hiking Saturday, McGinnis said. His wife had been walking in front of him and didn't see him fall.

Authorities didn't release the man's identity because they had not yet positively identified the body Monday.

Most people aren't really afraid of heights... it's the sudden stop at the bottom that scares them!

The Grand Canyon appears to be a popular place to die. I went there a few years ago, and the tour guide said that every year a few people fall to their deaths.

According to a website I just checked, there are usually between 10 and 25 fatalities every year - falling, jumping, heat and thirst, heart attacks, etc.

My grandfather told us when we were kids not to go the very ridge because people have been known to fall or the weight of the person causes a slight spot to give way. He knew this very well. His young brother died that way way back in the 1920's.

OMG how horrid for the family! It's so awful to hear this stuff. And then when you get to go someplace that "might" be dangerous you need to heed the warning signs on the trails.

When we visited a few years ago, the ranger said they average one person dead a month from falling, usually from disobeying directions.

I was there with small children years ago. My "naturalist" son took off chasing a lizard or something right towards the edge with no railing! He was about 12 and it scared me to death!

There was a couple years ago in this California area that were hiking and the ground slipped away right from under the wife and she fell to her death. He was devastated for years, it seems.

But, fortunately, most people survive nature!

Can't figure why people just can't just look at the view from a safe spot!

Years ago on my honeymoon in Polynesia the tour guide took me in a land/range rover on the ride of my life

During the ride I could only think that thank GOD I had already experienced SEX. But after reaching the summit of the tall mountain he had to go down backwards for 500 feet before

there was a spot he could turn around in! I still have video of it! Would not do it again
